  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I was wondering who here is a transfer student? This year will be my last year at my current university in ILwhere I have gone these past 2 years and will be transfering to a Christian college in either AZ or CA. The whole idea of transferring makes me really nervous and its like freshman year all over again where I won't know a single person. How did any of you get through this?

I'm a transfer student!!!!!
Making friends? It is hard making friends as a transfer student, especially depending on your personality. I'm shy at first, and when I first started at my new school, I HATED IT! It's still not my favorite place! And it was even harder at my present school, since it's a commuter school...there's no campus unity, everyone is doing their own thing, so that part sucks!
Definitely try to join an organization-I joined gospel choir and the Black Student Union...it made adjusting to the school alot easier...but unfortunately as a commuter, leaving campus RIGHT after class to go to work, I made a few friends in my classes...that was about it!

I transferred from a major university to a satellite school of an even bigger university, although this school itself is smaller than my high school, I think. Anyway,

A lot of people asked me why I transferred, and I never knew what to tell them, but really, the only real reason I transferred was because I felt God wanted me to. And since he was asking me to leave everything familiar to go to a new place (300 miles away? something like that...I dont know), he took care of me. Before I went down there, he provided me with a familiar face, which was someone I NEVER would have expected to see, and then he gave me two really good roommates and another great friend.

If you're worried about friends, I would really just pray that God would provide, yknow?

As for the transfer itself, I was really nervous, but looking back, I kinda miss that time of my life. It was all pretty exciting, cause I was stepping out totally on my own, going to a totally new place, meeting new people...it was really adventurous, and I do kinda miss that period. But I do wish you all the luck with your transfer, friend, and I sincerely hope it goes as smoothly as mine did.

I transferred from a regular 4-year college to a community college. This is my second year at the community college and I still haven't made any friends there. So I don't really know what to tell you, sorry.

I've transferred twice, and I think one of the best things you can do is to attend an orientation session and tap into new student resources. Many colleges offer an orientation especially for transfer students, which will give you a better understanding of the layout of the college and how everything works. Best of luck!

I'm a transfer student too. This is my second year at my new college though. I came here with a few friends, so that helped, but what really helped was getting involved. I'm involved in Campus Crusade for Christ, and that is how I have met a huge amount of friends. The best way is to put yourself out there, introduce yourself to people, and be a friend first.

I'm a transfer student. But I've only transfered to different community colleges so far. In fall 2009 I'm planning on transferring to a christian university though. The thought of transferring there makes me a bit nervous too. But though I'm a bit worried about it sometimes I know that God will help me get through it, and it will probably turn out that there's nothing to worry about.... :)

I'm a transfer student, and I transferred from a community college to a state college. I knew some people so that helped, but only a little. I also live in a dorm and I've met quite a few people here too. The biggest thing that helped and continues to help is God Himself.

I really suggest first trusting in God and praying to Him to guide you to the right people to be friends with. Finding a good church is a good place to start too. I think you'll eventually make friends in school anyway. Just be open to talking to people if they talk to you. Maybe say hi to some people in your classes. But definitely, trust in God!
