• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

"Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God." - 2 Corinthians 3:5

Do you realise you can never be too dependent upon God? In fact, he desires that you be fully dependent upon Him - that you ask for His wisdom, strength and provision in even the smallest details of your life.

The world teaches us to be self-sufficient - to pull up our own bootstraps, to face up to life's challenges, to not buckle under when the going gets tough. We've been so conditioned by this kind of thinking that we hesitate to make our needs known to our brothers and sisters in Christ, and even to God Himself.

You bring God great pleasure when you place your responsibilites, your decisions, your dreams, your family, your possessions - everything great and small - at His feet, asking Him to guide your every step in every matter. The more you depend on Him, the more He is able to bless you!

Amen! "God helps those who help themselves",is NOT even in the Bible! In fact scripture shows us that is totally unscriptural! God helps those who cannot help themselves! Praise Our Loving, Merciful God!

Thank you heavenly Father for all the times you have helped me with all the little things and the big things in my life. For all the times you have helped me to find something that I have misplaced, from keys to important papers. For all the decisions you have helped me make the right choices with, and for teaching me,that when I do it without asking for your help,I usually just mess it up,but in your mercy you help me correct it too. You are such a good, kind, compassionate father, and I love you and praise you,in the name of your beloved son Jesus.Amen

God wants us to depend on Him. I believe that's why we have trials in our lives. God has to wake us up and bring us back to Him. Let's face it. If things were always going good in our lives, I think we would, over time, get the attitude that we can take it from here.

Dependence on God is definitely something I've had to work on. It's not that I truly believe I can handle life on my own (I can't!!!), but I feel sometimes, without even realizing it, that I need to improve myself in certain ways in order to make God happy with me. I also feel like I have to meet God halfway, and do all this work on my own, even if it's really beyond my abilities to do anything, for Him to take care of any situations for me. Lately, though, I've been much better about catching myself when I start to do this, and telling myself that God will meet me where I am!

Good point made. Actually I was thinking about this this week because certain things have gone wrong and changes have been made because of it (our car broke).
I do think the world enforces making it on your own on your own power very much, and to admit that you just can't do it is looked down upon. I agree that many of us have been conditioned to try and just find a way through things without even thinking to ask God for help, and lots of times it seems God has to make things happen so that we remember that we do need his help, and sometimes it takes something big happening to get people to realize this.
I do think that we are to put some effort tho for instance if you need a job, sure you pray about it but also fill out applications and actively do things to try and get one, but then again there may be situacions where you really can't do anything about it and just have to rely on God more.

This is so true. I look back over the last few years and while at certain times I thought, just thought, I knew what God was trying to teach me. However, it has only been of late that I have truly realized that what He is teaching me is to be more dependant on Him. To allow Him to work rather than to try to handle a crisis or situation on my own. But to allow His wisdom to work, His timing to work. That I should listen to Him and follow His lead rather than think I have all the answers. It is a world thought that is very hard to lose once one is used to thinking that way.

Heavenly Father,
I thank you for your patience as you teach us to rely on You and You alone daily. That You teach us to listen to You and follow Your guidance for our success in life, as our success is a glory to You, not ourselves.

Thank You Jesus
Amen and Amen!

I am joining right in with all of you...It is a startling surprise to me to finally learn that I have always been dependant upon God...just did not know know it...thought "I" was running the show......or was supposed to run the show.

To me learning to abide in Him...at His feet...depending upon Him more and more...this way is becoming the "safe" way...the way of finding the security I have always longed for. Plus...my intimate times with Him are just becoming so rich...He is really SOMETHING! I mean that reverently and respectfully.
