In Exodus 22:31we read; And ye shall be holy men unto me: neither shall ye eat any flesh that is torn of beasts in the field; ye shall cast it to the dogs. This might seem like a strange command given to Moses by the Lord, but one needs to understand that the Lord spoke many of his commandments, statutes, and ordinances given in the law in similitudes as he also revealed them to Moses mouth to mouth. Just as Jesus also proclaimed that His words were spoken in parables to those who were without, but to his disciples they were revealed in private plainly. Mark 4:11; And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables:
So let us by the Spirit search out what the Lord meant by not eating any flesh that is torn of beasts. The flesh of an animal is as meat for the body, just as the Word of God is as food for the soul. When we understand in the spiritual sense that all men are like beasts, then we can understand the nature of the beast. Ecclesiastes 3:18; I said in mine heart concerning the estate of the sons of men, that God might manifest them, and that they might see that they themselves are beasts.
Peter and Jude explained that some men are like natural brute beasts, just as Paul also fought at Ephesus ( 1 Corinthians 15:32 ) with those same natural brute beasts that do tear with their words. 2 Peter 2:12; But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption;
Jude 1:10; But these speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves.
Here we see it was the way these men like beasts understood doctrine, and even spoke evil of those spiritual things in scripture they understand not, thereby corrupting themselves. And these being as unclean beasts (corrupted) also had the power to destroy (tear to pieces) by their fleshy (carnally minded doctrine) by others believing in, and partaking of (eating) their defiled flesh, or doctrine. So to eat the flesh (doctrine) of anything torn by those natural brute beasts (carnally minded men) is to eat defiled (corrupted) flesh (doctrine.) Just like desiring the false doctrine of this uncircumcised world is much like desiring the strange flesh of a wicked and adulterous woman.
An example of animal flesh being like doctrine was given to us in Jesus Christ (Lamb of God) who also said in John 6:54; Whoso eats my flesh, and drinks my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. John 6:55; For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. Jesus was not talking about eating his literal flesh, but consuming his doctrine (Word of God) like the bread of Life that it is. Just as it is written Matthew 4:4; But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.
So by the example of the good flesh (doctrine) of the Lamb of God, we can then begin to see that other doctrine (flesh) which has been torn by the natural brute beasts of this world and corrupted (defiled). This corrupt way of thinking is the inward mark of the beast that was also sealed upon many hearts and minds of the Jews for not receiving the testimony of that Prophet sent to them in Jesus. They like Adam were cast out of the garden of God, just as Satan was also cast out of the Mountain of God. And like Cain, who also was cut off and cast out into the wilderness to be a wanderer, and a vagabond, having been marked by God for his transgression. Much in the same way many of Israel were also forecast to be cut off, cast out, and sealed by this mark till 7 times would pass over them. Just as we also saw in the similitude of uncleanness given in Miriam, and also in the sign of Nebuchadnezzar who was given over to a heart and mind of a beast when his kingdom was rent from him because his heart became lifted up with pride.
Early on we were given this sign to come in Israel by way of Josephs coat he wore after he was handed over to the nations here in Genesis 37:33; And he knew it, and said, It is my son's coat; an evil beast hath devoured him; Joseph is without doubt rent in pieces. This handing over to the Nations was the sign of the Messiah being cut-off and smitten by his own brethren, and then the gospel of the kingdom being rent from Israel and given for a time to the Gentiles. Just as Jesus garment (his people) were then scattered to the Nations and torn by the worldly beast.
This sign is also shown here in Zechariah 13:7; Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, and against the man that is my fellow, saith the LORD of hosts: smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered: and I will turn mine hand upon the little ones. The Lord turning His hand upon the little flock of Israel was also shown as the Lord tearing them like a beast by his judgments determined upon them. Isaiah 5:25; Therefore is the anger of the LORD kindled against his people, and he hath stretched forth his hand against them, and hath smitten them: and the hills did tremble, and their carcasses were torn in the midst of the streets. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.
And again here we read in Hosea 6:1; Come, and let us return unto the LORD: for he hath torn, and he will heal us; he hath smitten, and he will bind us up. Now some may be wondering why it says the Lord has torn, when the topic at hand is about the beast that tears. But does not the Lord send the sword, the famine, the pestilence, and the beast that tears? Leviticus 26:22; I will also send wild beasts among you, which shall rob you of your children, and destroy your cattle, and make you few in number; and your high ways shall be desolate. So yes He does, as we can also confirm this sign by scripture.
In Revelation 13:2 we read; And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority. Notice the description of this worldly beast, which by the way is also a conglomeration of all the beasts first shown to Daniel. But what I want you realize is just who has sent this beast, and who it is that has allowed this worldly beast to prosper for the time determined?
In Hosea 13:6 the Lord warned of the time when the peoples heart became exalted, they would forget Him and therefore Hosea 13:7; Therefore I will be unto them as a lion: as a leopard by the way will I observe them: Hosea 13:8; I will meet them as a bear that is bereaved of her whelps, and will rend the caul of their heart, and there will I devour them like a lion: the wild beast shall tear them.
These beasts the Lord has shown in a similitude speak of the Nations of the world, and the doctrine of the world that would rend the hearts and minds of the people, not only with their ways of hardheartedness, but also by their corrupt doctrine. These nations that make up the worldly beast, which also receive their power from Satan, would be like an instrument in the hand of God as part of the consumption decreed. In effect, these cruel lords of this world would be like servants who administer punishments upon the wicked, just as Satan is only allowed to prosper as long as the Lord will allow.
Much like Pharaohs heart was hardened in his day against the Hebrew to fulfill Gods will and purpose. Just as God also allowed Samuel to appoint a rebellious king over Israel in Saul when the people desired a king to rule over them instead of following after the Lord by faith. As so God gave them over to cruel lords, and kings, time and time again much like the king of Babylon, who would also serve as an instrument of judgment in the hand of the Lord. Jeremiah 27:6; And now have I given all these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant; and the beasts of the field have I given him also to serve him.
