He is free. He was sent back to Denmark last week and is now with his family in another, undisclosed country. He could still return to the US if he wins this appeal in court. So, I am confused. Is Mr. Torben still detained in the U.S. or is now free somewhere in some other country?
I still can't understand how that can happen in a developed democratic country like the USA - really puzzling. I may not fully understand or endorse his theological approach, but this course of events is mind-boggling.
He's already been released... Back to EuropeYes it is a sad day in America when this can happen to someone, an American citizen! I don't think Torben did anything wrong! I am praying every day for his immediate release and for all false charges to be dropped!
And I've already given you the facts of Torben's case. You have already been given the explanation.
Torben has exausted all of his appeals and since he now has an order of deportation on his record, he's no longer eligible for asylum in the US.He could still return to the US if he wins this appeal in court.
That is not true. If you aren't informed on the subject, please do not spread lies.Torben has exausted all of his appeals and since he now has an order of deportation on his record, he's no longer eligible for asylum in the US.
Even CBN reported back in June that Torben had already exhausted his appeals. That is not true. If you aren't informed on the subject, please do not spread lies.
"Søndergaard's legal team says, "Now comes a time of much-needed rest and healing, and gratefulness to God that his painful experience of being detained is now over. Torben has requested privacy and will not be online or responding to calls and emails for the time being. Please continue to pray for Torben's pending Asylum petition in the US federal court. If it is granted, he will be able to return to the US immediately with his family."
Well the man and his legal team says he still has an appeal in the works and if it succeeds then he can return to the states, who are any of us to tell them they are wrong? Unless you have insight into their specific legal process that you can speak authoritatively on.Even CBN reported back in June that Torben had already exhausted his appeals.
With his immigration appeals process exhausted and now facing deportation to Denmark, his legal team has asked the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals to grant a "Petitioner's Motion for Stay of Removal," possibly freeing Søndergaard or ordering a new trial in the Immigration courts.
A decision from the court could come in July. (Source)
The 11th Circuit Court of Appeals denied his motion for Stay of Removal and he was deported.
Once a person has an Order of Deportation against them, they are no longer eligible to apply for asylum in the US. US immigration law also prevents Torben from entering the country for at least 10 years. These are facts, it's US immigration law.
I mean that's kind of comparing apples to oranges. Yes, the laws should be enforced equally without regards to a person's skin color or reason for wanting entry. But Torben entered the country legally through lawful process. The ones crossing the Rio Grande are not. The two situations are not the same nor should they be equated with each other. Are our attitudes about enforcement of U.S. immigration laws different for white evangelists than brown persons crossing the Rio Grande? There is a question for some reflection.
Considering that the DOJ website has no current appeals or future hearings listed for Torben, and US immigration law states that if an individual has had a previous asylum application denied they are barred from applying for asylum in the future, and if an individual's deportation was ordered by an immigration judge they are barred from entry to the US for ten years; it's easy to conclude that they are either wrong or putting out misinformation.Well the man and his legal team says he still has an appeal in the works and if it succeeds then he can return to the states, who are any of us to tell them they are wrong?
Except that there came a point where he overstayed in violation of immigration law, as I understand it. At that point, he should have left (or faced consequences of detention and deportation.) Is that not a violator just as much as a different kind of violator? Isn't being in the country illegally the same in either regard? The two situations are not the same nor should they be equated with each other.
Violating the law is violating the law. But again, apples to oranges.Except that there came a point where he overstayed in violation of immigration law, as I understand it. At that point, he should have left (or faced consequences of detention and deportation.) Is that not a violator just as much as a different kind of violator? Isn't being in the country illegally the same in either regard?

Immigration finds lots of people who overstay, and are dealt with accordingly just like Torben. Are we only concerned with the white evangelists? So immigration found one person who overstayed their visa, out of millions and millions, it just so happens to be a Christian seeking asylum. Got it.
Says you, how many is a lot to you out of millions?Immigration finds lots of people who overstay, and are deal with accordingly just like Torben. Are we only concerned with the white evangelists?
Torben's Visa Waiver wasn't cancelled, it expired. Have you ever traveled internationally? I can assure you that Torben understood the terms of the Visa Waiver Program and how he could only stay in the US for 90 days before either having to leave the US or obtain a visa for a longer stay.Imagine actually thinking that in prisoning a Christian for more than a year because his visa waiver was canceled With Out His Knowledge BECAUSE of False Accusers in Denmark was a just and fair decision.

His troubles in the US didn't begin until more than two years after his visa expired.
