Shalom all,

I am new to this forum and am not sure how to describe myself. I tend to err on the side of Jewishness when it comes to interpretting Scripture, but I like to leave the vowels in when I write about the Almighty. I don't eat pork or shellfish, but cheeseburgers are okay. I guess I try to discard the manmade aspects of Christianity with which I was reared without adopting the manmade aspects of Judaism. I came to the realization about 6 years ago that Torah was the behavioral standard Jahovah has provided for His people. Here's my question:  Is there really a Christian behavioral standard apart from Torah? Is Torah adherence the key to unifying the Body of Messiah?

Kharis and shalom in Messiah,

Hoss

It is my experience that everything in the Bible is based on Torah. Basically, you've got 5 books that came from G-d, and 61 books that offer some sort of commentary on those five.
By George, I think he's GOT IT!!;)

I say yes on the second question.

On the first, I'd say Yeshua argued that the impulse should be to go beyond what's defined as "Torah". Actually, what's implicit in the Torah, but not commanded. Which is imitating HaShem.

How to we imitate HaShem? Do the works of Hesed v'emet: Extreme Loyalty. The declaration of that loyalty not with our words but with our works results in a miraculous and intimate relationship with HaShem. HaShem pours out His Spirit upon those who declare that extreme loyalty in "their Heart". The Spirit is so close to such men and women that miracles are common-place among them. The Spirit marks them out. The Kingdom of Heaven is with them. They go and live it, they don't just study and wish for it.
