This is a somewhat old story, but I just found it now and found it interesting. Apparantly last year TV Asashi conducted a nation-wide (Japan) poll among varying age groups to determine the 100 most popular anime of all time. I will use the American title when it is availible. The results (with director when I feel like it):
100. Dokonjo Gaeru
99. Yatterman
98. Hajime no Ippo
97. Umi no Triton (Yoshiyuki Tomino)
96. Oishinbo
95. Haikara-San ga Tooru (Kazuyoshi Yokota)
94. Ikkyu-San (Tetsuo Imazawa, Kimio Yabuki, and Hideo Furusawa)
93. Himitsu no Akko-Chan (based on a manga by Fujio Akatsuda)
