• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I don't know that we have the discipline to get what I want from this, but let's give it a try ... obtaining some consensus on the 10 topics that occur most often in this forum.

A suggested place to start:

0. Omniscience/omnipotence vs. free will
1. Existence of the spiritual
2. Purpose
3. Fixed references for truth vs. relativism
4. The nature of time and the beginning
5. Discernment of our origin
6. Our ability to extend life vs. inevitability of an end
7. The historicity of Jesus
8. The veracity of the Bible
9. Establishing what we know

Consensus? Impossible. We'll get a list of diverse views.

So, would you put something different on the list?

Hold on. Maybe I misunderstood you. I thought that you meant a consensus of opinions regarding those ten subjects. Did you mean a consensus regarding which ten subjects appear most frequently?

Once upon a time there used to be an Apologetics subforum.

omniscience is not contrary to human free will

Agreed, but the subject does come up frequently. That's what the thread is about.

And paradoxes?

You just want your screen name on the list.

The lifting the rock question is the most common and annoying thing ever.

Yeah, I guess I wasn't thinking about the annoying questions, just the ones that are actually interesting - challenging. Paradox seems a bit general to me. This question might fit under #0, but ... I don't know.

What about ethics?

OK. I'll give you this one. I could probably find a way to combine #7 & #8 to make room.
