I am getting ready to go back to school for a diploma in nursing. I have a degree in Social Work now but it's time for a change. I sort of thought about continuing my education with a Master's degree in social work, but I decided against it - I have been deciding against it for a long time, that's why I waited so long to do anything because I didn't feel like I really wanted to stick with social work.

Anyway... I have had a number of people tell me that they think I might be too old to go back for this degree... Sometimes, I feel that way, too. When I am finished I will be 35 and starting over at the bottom in nursing.

Do you ever feel that in your 30's you're "too old" for something that you would like to do?

Do you do it anyway?
Nooo dont ever think that, you are never too old, i wish i could but i have had ME, that makes my brain sluggish , or i would love to . Dont let anyone hold you back babe

You are NOT too old. I am 31, and a RN. I went directly after high school, graduated when I was 22. I graduated with such a great diversity of people. Black, white, men, women. But mostly what I remember is the ages. The oldest one to graduate in my class was in her early 50's. She is an awesome nurse! In fact, there were fewer younger graduates than younger ones in my class. You will have unique challenges in that you have to juggle a career and family with school, but you're at an advantage in your maturity level. I was a kid and was not prepared for all that nursing school required. You will find nursing is a great field, no matter what age you are. I had surgery 5 weeks ago and my nurse was in her late 50's and had not been out of school long. She was sooo sweet and I liked her sooooo much better than the young one I had on the next day. Pray about this and if this is where God is leading you, you will do great! PM me if you wanna talk. Nursing is hard, but rewarding. There have been days I've wanted to go work at WalMart, but God want let me, lol. But the good thing is that it is so diverse. There are so many options with nursing.

You are never too old!! :) My hubby is 41 and starting college next week. He had an accident 2 years ago and had to change careers because he can no longer drive a Semi. He is going to take Civil Engineering by the time he is done it will be 3 years from now. He will be 44 and will have a good 20 years under his belt before retirement. :) But knowing my hubby he wont quite at 65 :)

You are never to old to start something new! My beautiful husband was 35 when he married me and 37 when he started university. The last study he did was when he was 17 and finishing high school. I promised to help him with essays etc, but he just blew me away with how brilliant he was! I knew he could do it, but I thought he would require a lot of help from me (I have 2 1/2 degrees). I am ashamed that I did not have more faith in him. He is now 40 and just finishing his first year out as a Radiographer, and he did so well he got the Deans Award for Academic Excellence! to do that you have to have a D average ( I don't know how other countries have their marking system these days but it goes P (50% - 64%), C(65%-75%), D (74%-85%), HD,(85%-100%). For the hardest subject Physics in his first exam he go 92% and then 97% for the next one. Any way I will stop boasting about him now, sorry (not really, I am very proud of him).

Now before I was married I used to lecture at University in Nursing and Midwifery and in my last class before I was married, most of the class were older than me. It was really funny the first time I walked in, they did not believe I was their lecturer :D . I also had one student midwife who was 60 and a Grandmother! (she was very nervous but a good student).

Anyway, I shall stop babbling now, but it is a subject that is close to my heart. I love learning new things and I really encourage others to continue to learn and grow. The latest thing I have learnt is how to whistle really loudly with my fingers in my mouth (you know how some guys do) and am currently working on juggling.

I really encourage you to do nursing, I believe that nursing is a real calling, I could not imagine doing anything else. Nurses are really special people and if you feel you have be called to be a nurse, go for it! And if you need any help, don't be afraid to ask! I would love to help and support you!

I know I promised to stop babbling, before, but I really am stopping now, I have to make breakfast for my father who is here for Fathers Day.

"Happy Fathers Day to all the Dads"

Stopping babbling now.

No! You are not too old! God knows it is hard enough to really get anywhere in a world that doesn't really acknowledge you when you are still in your 20's, (I feel ithat 30 is a second coming of age) Jesus began his ministry when He was 30. Relax, give yourself time to grow and remember that people are living longer these days!
