Too many games!

Seriously, there have been WAY too many great games coming out recently!!! I just can't keep up.

Titles sitting on my shelf that I haven't gotten to playing through yet are Ratchet & Clank Future, Assassin's Creed, The Orange Box (although I have played through Portal and the original HL2 a few years ago), Resistance, God of War I, God of War II, Super Mario Galaxy and The Legend of Zelda: The Phantom Hourglass. Smash Brothers X (Brawl) just came out, and Mario Kart Wii is just around the corner. Not to mention GTAIV and Metal Gear Solid IV are also on the horizon.

Too many!!!

On the other hand, a couple games that I REALLY recommend that I've been playing lots of recently are Uncharted (PS3), Hot Shots Golf 5 (PS3) and Mario Party 8 (Wii). If you have these systems, really consider these games. They're FUN! Uncharted, actually I played through it just before Christmas, was one of the most pleasant gaming experiences I've had in a long time. It is a bit spooky at times, but if you don't mind shooting things and exploring (basically Tomb Raider done WELL), it's amazing! Hot Shots Golf 5 is an absolute blast to play, and I think the English version is coming out soon. If you have a Wii, then Mario Party 8 is some of the most fun you can have playing with a partner or more if you get sick of playing Smash Brothers. Both Hot Shots Golf 5 and Mario Party 8 are completely safe for everyone, as there's no violence in them.

I want some new RPGs to play. Oblivion has been played into oblivion and I'm bored with it, not to mention the expansion was a big bowl of suck. Fable is... meh. Beat it twice, it's now uninteresting. Not much differs in the gameplay.

What's out for PC now that looks good? I tried Two Worlds, wasn't impressed at all. In fact, I was disappointed... Need deep content!!!

Final Fantasy XIII is coming out later this year (probably LATE this year, as well).


White Knight Story is a GREAT looking RPG coming for the PS3, but I don't know when. Fallout 3 is coming... probably in 2009, though.

If you want good old style RPGs, get a DS or a PSP, or play some of those classics again (or for the first time). Have you played through Phantasy Star I, II and IV? They're all great. How about Lunar: The Silver Star or Lunar: Eternal Blue? Replay Final Fantasy IV or VI. Chrono Trigger. Earthbound. Shining Force I or II. Any of the old Dragon Quest/Warrior games. Wild Arms was just re-released on the PSN. The Fallout and Baldur's Gate series on the PC are incredible. Super Paper Mario is out on the Wii. There's a Dragon Quest game on it also. Fable was really fun, as was Jade Empire. KOTOR shouldn't need mentioning. If you haven't played KOTOR 1 or 2, then go play then now!

 

[The Theory]

If you don't have Puzzle Quest, do yourself a favor and pick it up. It is available on most platforms (I have it for the DS, which, in my humble opinion, is the ideal setup for the game, what with the dual screens and one of them being a touch screen)... it is a mix of an RPG and the popular puzzle game, Bejewelled. While the description doesn't really sound too exciting, the actual gameplay is awesome.

I've never tried Morrowind. I looked into it before but it just looked like it was lacking compared to Oblivion. However, I hear the alternate skills and guilds were much more complete and had much deeper content. I really hope they put the time into the new game to give it the depth and content it needs to make it fantastic.

I only play PC platform. I find console too limiting. Eventually I might get one, but I doubt it.

it would be great if they made oblivion into a MMORPG don't you think?
New items,spells,currency,monsters,PVP areas,trading,skills. it would be incredible!

No, at first I thought it would be cool, but after thinking about it, I really hope they never turn Elder Scrolls into an MMO. The market is too flooded as it is, and an MMO based on the game would most likely be disappointing. They should stick to what they do best, which is single player RPGs with deep content rather than trying to make it MMO.

A neat feature to add though, would be a party system where you could add a couple friends to the game and do dungeon crawls together similar to the old days of WarCraft where friends could play each other. However, it would be difficult seeing as each player would need the same world files in order to have the same changes throughout the world on their screen. I don't see it happening.

The ONLY things lacking on Morrowind are the fighting system, the usefulness of having a mage character (quite poorly balanced in Morrowind when compared to most other classes), and the graphics (although they can be substantially improved with mods).

If you are finished with Oblivion and want a similar experience, go with Morrowind! As far as content and immersion go, it's got as much, or more, to offer than Oblivion.

All the PS3 hardware does is stream the video from your PC onto the TV. In fact, you can access your entire PC harddrive from the PS3. It plays most video formats from AVI, MPG, DivX, WMV, etc., photo files, and mp3 files. The PS3 isn't really at all limiting!

Err... why would I do that when I have a PC that runs PC games? Also, you have a compatibility issue with Linux and most games unless you're running an emulator. That makes absolutely no sense what-so-ever. :\

Perhaps your computer is in another room, and you want to play a PC game on your main TV. As well, you could stream your PC game over the net and play it via the PS3 in an entirely different location.

There is no compatibility issue and no emulator. It is simply video streaming via a PC-PS3(linux) connection.

That makes absolutely no sense what-so-ever. :\

Why not? It is simply streaming video from one place to another. You can literally play any PC game installed on your PC through a PS3 as long as there's a connection of some sort. Speed does matter, but that's not exactly an issue where I live (a nearly steady 100Mbps connection).

Why didn't you read my last post? You completely ignored it. I told you why someone may find benefit in streaming a game from a PC to a PS3, and I told you that it's the PC hardware that is running the game; not the PS3, so there is no lag if your connection is basically anything better than dial-up. There is a benefit to this! If you're main computer is near your TV, then it may not benefit you personally... but that's not the point at all. This isn't just about CJ's personal home set-up. Heck, I don't even need to do this, since my PC is next to my TV and I've got it hooked up with component cables. It's a cool feature that will is useful to people who's computer is not near their TV, but they want to play a PC game on their TV.

I'm curious to see how it's going to work with the PSP/PS3 streaming feature. I read it in GI a couple months back that you will be able to turn on your PS3 remotely with your PSP, load up the game in the machine and play it on your PSP. All the gameplay and processing takes place on the PS3, the portable just streams screens from PS3 and input to the PS3. I can't imagine it not having latency issues but you never know with technology the way it is today.

I can remember back in 2003 when I worked in IT, we converted a whole school district over to terminal services and it worked great. Allowed us to use old Pentium-PIII class machines and run modern apps on them. It was very satisfying to run Office XP on a 133MHz P1 with 16MB RAM, via terminal services, of course.

1024/768 is an extremely high resolution? That's about what an HDTV does, or rather the widescreen equivalent of. What computer can't handle that? If you play games on your PC, that's the standard resolution.

Plus, even with a fast connection, there is sure to be a lot of lag on higher end games.

You don't understand what's going on here, even though it's been explained multiple times. Graphics intensive games have NOTHING to do with it. The ONLY factor is the connection between the PC and the PS3. If you're running it on a local network, wired or wireless, there will be basically NO issue at all. If you have any connection over a few MB a second, there will be no issue (basically any high-speed connection). As the last poster pointed out, this is not new technology. In fact, I was doing the same thing on old 486 computers in the mid-90s. Again, it has NOTHING to do with graphics.

HDTV makes playing PC games on a TV a competely viable idea, as you can view the PC screen at what is comparibly a standard resolution. If your PC is not in the same room as your TV, this does work just fine. You can play something like Crysis or, dare I say it... EMULATORS!*, on your TV, via a PS3, while the game is running in a competely different room or even in a competely different location. You could even hook up a wireless kb and mouse to the PS3 and have a go at Civilization, Simcity, or the Sims at a normal resolution on an HDTV while your PC is in a different room, if you desire. Believe it or not, even if you don't get it, some may like this idea.

*Windows based PCs have a higher compatibility/performance rate with some emulators than Linux running on a PS3 does due to the PS3 not allowing Linux to access all of the PS3s resources.
