I know that.
I like the concept that where the Scripture is silent about an issue it means that we have the freedom to make up our own minds (seeing that God has given us a brain to use rationality to work things out for ourselves) as long as our decision making is not inconsistent with what the Scripture actually says.
I'll do like I do with everyone in the past, I'll take one thought from your thesis and comment on that and trash the rest. Sorry, I'm not into quote wars.
Anyways...
Let me show you a line of scripture that denotes the difference in what I'm seeing as a free-wheeling thinking pattern from you Oscarr, and how my thinking pattern has changed since becoming a Christian...
Joh 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he shall guide you into all the truth: for he shall not speak from himself; but what things soever he shall hear, these shall he speak: and he shall declare unto you the things that are to come.
If there is a section of scripture that is silent on an issue, I don't take it upon myself to state what I think about it, I ask The Holy Spirit to show me the truth on it. I give Him the pre-eminence in my life because I want the mind of Christ, not my mind anymore. I don't trust men and their opinions because I want to be led by The Spirit.
It's a discipline that has great results over time, but an essential one when dealing with doctrinal matters. You have to have your convictions grounded in biblical truth only, not personal opinions.
