Greenthumb said:Tomatoes are one of the best foods grown in the garden. When they are allowed to ripen in the sun, there is nothing better. I remember eating tomato sandwiches from fresh picked tomatoes for lunch during the summer. My uncle grew the best tomatoes around. He loved the beefsteak variety. Just one slice is enough for a whole sandwich. Mmm yum, now my mouth is watering.![]()

I'm curious, do you all grow from seeds, or do you buy starts?
Check (do a Google search) with an organization called "Seed Savers' Exchange". If they're still around, they'll probably have it.chilehed said:When I was a kid we grew a cultivar named "Floridel", it was one of the best-tasting tomatoes I've ever had. Anyone know if it's still available?
PromiseSeeker said:(I have tended in the past to have problems with blossom end rot and green worms~ but haven't in several years. Funny, I don't know how they "decide" to infest one season and not the next.)

I fill up several 5-gal buckets, then have some to give away. I love the green ones fried. The ripe ones I either eat on tomato sandwiches, or cook a pot of them for breakfast, they are great stewed & eaten with toast for breakfast. There's just no wrong way to eat a tomato!
