My wife and I travel a 2 lane highway 40 miles each way every Sunday to attend service. We leave home between 9 and 9:30 A.M. and usually leave service for home between 1 and 3:00 P.M. The highway has quite a few double yellow line areas (no passing allowed) and many single yellow line areas (no passing in one direction) to hills and curves where visibility of oncoming traffic is limited or non-existent.

Last Sunday on the way home we past two severely wrecked vehicles off the road to one side with a television truck from Oklahoma City (nearly 100 miles away) and 4 Oklahoma State highway patrol cars on the scene.

Later we heard the story. An apparently impatient driver passed a slow vehicle in one of those no passing zones trailer only to hit an oncoming SUV head-on while on the wrong side of the road with both vehicles traveling at or over the speed limit (65 miles per hour). Three people were killed and three more were transported to distant hospitals by helicopter. At least one ambulance had also been on the scene.

The driver of the vehicle with the impatient driver was at fault, but people in the other innocent vehicle also suffered as a result.

I am grateful that God kept His hand on me and my wife that day!

Also deeply grateful Gustav wasn't as destructive as feared . .

(Dave, that is just so beautiful!)

I'm trying to be grateful that the weather has cooled, although I always just hate to see summer come to an end. Mercifully, our autumns are an exquisite reward for being required to let go . . We had a wonderful last few hot days with our children and grandchildren to enjoy our first year of owning an above ground swimming pool before having to drain, clean, fold it up and tuck it away for the winter.

I had been waiting for help on a matter close to my heart. It was some time ( many days!) before it came. God has separated me from the problem with His council of what He is going to do. I am so very, very grateful and can rest this matter with Him. (with a little tear of thankfulness!)

No, Bro Dave, Jesus did not drive, but He understands all of our problems. He knows all of the answers that we need. I am grateful for that today!

Praise the Lord!

Today, I am grateful for:

Insight, into the way of our Lord
Learning, that His peace, is to be found
Acknowledging, that His will will be done
My being, a witness to His sovereign power
His grace, that I am NOT an unbeliever
