  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

To Tip or Not to Tip.... That is the question.... It used to be that full service restaurants would provide the little place on the receipt for a tip. In which I have no problem with. These days people are asking for tips in basic fast food restaurants where you have to wait in a line for food and then seat yourself. At what point should one tip?

I haven't experienced that, but I see nothing to tip for in that situation.

Years ago I had a weird experience at a newly opened restaurant. We sit down, waitress comes to take our order with some digital device, and when she's got our order, she then asks how much I'd like to tip. Pre-tipping. She hadn't done anything yet! Was I supposed to tip her based on how well she took our order?

I was at the Golden Corral and some old veteran was struggling to get up. The waiter would walk around but did not offer to help. There was a mother and two children seated next to him and the children offered to help the old guy on his walker. I noticed that the old gentleman gave the kids the tip. In which I thought was the just thing to do.

At what point should one tip?
As you say for some situations like sit-down restaurants, it's customary/practically-mandatory to tip. In other situations, when you feel like it.
