  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Heyy, are you looking to buy or rent? Where are you going to be working/going to school? This might help wme with giving you better advice.

In general, I would avoid most communities in the NE (areas North of Deerfoot Trail). Not only are they far from a lot of stuff in Calgary (like downtown, the University, etc...), they are considered to be the areas where more crime and gang activity occur. Also the new communities in the far SW (as in, down McLeod Tr) are REALLY far from the city centre and you're looking for a looooong drive if you want to go almost anywhere in the city.

If you're looking for an apartment, there are plenty of nice condos throughout the city. My 2 bedroom condo cost $319,000, but I think the prices have gone down a bit since I bought (in July... it was crazy). So you're probably looking at paying in the mid 200s for a 1 bedroom. As for renting, you're probably looking at 600-800 for a 1 bedroom.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help.. I have no idea where I'd be working yet, doing trade work, I'd be working all over the city and surrounding areas, and my fiance, well, quite unsure of where she'll be working. Am just trying to get some ballpark figures to try and set out a budget. being newlyweds by the time we're out there, we will be looking to rent for a while, though hoping to buy house in a few years.

Thanks again, I'm looking forward to getting out there with my (by then) wife :D
