Since imagining sex with another person who you're not married to is a sin, does that mean that unless you're married you shouldn't think about sex at all? If not, how can I think about sex as a teen, and please God at the same time?

that is a very good question! by no means is this the correct answer. this is just my opinion. but here you go.
lust is a sinful desire of the heart. sex is not. sex was created by God to be enjoyable. in fact, paul says that husbands and wifes should have sex whenever they are not praying haha.
now, if you can think about sex without thinking of an image of a girl, i think you would be fine. it would be like thinking about anything fun, you know? sex is an awesome thing and i look forward to having it someday (maybe, God willing). i think its a bit of a gray area but if you're thinking what sex will be like with you future wife, i think you are okay. just dont fantasize about it and let it take over. remember, your thoughts lead to your emotions. so if you are thinking sex, you are going to, for a lack of a better word, become horny. so i wouldnt suggest, yeah, go and think about sex whenever you want. thats not what im saying. but if it happens to come across your mind, dont feel like you just sinned. be careful. train your thoughts man.

now, im not going to treat you like a kid that doesnt know anything but im going to give you some friendly advice. train your thoughts! for the next couple of years your hormones are going to consume you. im sure they already have but they are going to get worse. you gotta guard yourself man. do your absolute best to not think about sex or anything like it. when you start thinking of girls and sex go talk to your parents in the next room to get your mind of it or talk to a friend. a lot of people will develop bad habits and im positive a lot of your friends do or will look at pornography. im not trying to preach at you but its a slippery slope. i am assuming you're in hs. be careful man.

Yes, I'm a few years older than you and I can tell you that "iamauthentic" (love your name by the way) is right. Your hormones WILL become more...consuming, I suppose.
This is a question I've often thought about it. Let's try to work through this logically.
Hormones are beyond our control. We dont CHOOSE to have hormones, they're just there, they exist in all of us. I remember being a little kid thinking girls are "icky" lol and stuff like that, I cringed at the thought of ever holding hands with them, let alone kissing one. But...suffice to say I've changed my opinion since then lol
Like any other young male, it's rare that I go through an entire day without someone of the female variety crossing my mind, even if its brief.
So, hormones change our mind and attitudes FOR us, we dont have any choice in the matter. With this in mind, it would seem that God's Word is telling us to basically wage war against our own body.
Hormones make us WANT and crave the opposite sex, which is NORMAL.
Why would God make us this way if it only leads us towards sinful thoughts? It makes zero sense to me. All I know is this.
The Holy Spirit is far more powerful than any hormones you may have. He has already freed me from several nasty sins and together, He and I are currently trying to wipe out the last remnants of sin in my life. I can tell you that it's not easy, but it IS possible. This is what we must all strive towards, my friend.

I wouldn't say its the thought that counts here. To me, its the dwelling on the thought, and/or the pursuance of that thought that is the sin. Because if it is, then every Christian must now be blind so as not to see some Victoria Secret poster/ad/store somewhere, or see a scantly clad girl prancing around(that sounds creepy). If you don't dwell on the thought, I see no foul play.
