I am watching Dateline's To Catch A Predator, and I just wanted to vent a moment.

I am outraged (to say the least) at the men who are actually showing up at this house for sex with young teens. A few guys said they are married and I was suddenly saddened for the wives. One man said he has a daughter who is one year older than the young boy he was coming to have sex with!!!
Can you imagine being his daughter and this being on TV and knowing this about your father

This is an epidemic that is silently going on and there has been minimal exposure. It seems to keep getting swept under the rug. Some are being cautht but so many more are going unchecked and I wonder what happens to the young children and the long term consequences.

I know we can't go out playing vigilante but I want to draw attention to it (if no one has before) and make ourselves aware of what is going on in our homes and communities.

This is really tragic. Really.

Didn't know about or see this show, but it's just numbing to even contemplate.

And then there's the children sold into prostitution as young, young children.

Check out International Justice League - they work around the world to help them and other victims. They get these guys thrown in jail here for what they do internationally.

Didn't mean to get off the topic of this specific show, but felt this tied into what you're posting about.

I've seen the Dateline specials over the past few weeks. I can't help but to just watch with amazement & sometimes laugh at the stupidity of these guys. The ones that are the most shocking are the married guys & the guys who either drive for hours or those who show up at 1 o'clock in the morning. How risky is that?

I think it is a problem although the people operating the sting are more aggressive as teens then actual teens probably would be. I think the "expert" sex offender probably does not fall for the stings. They commit crimes against people they know very well.

I agree and that is so scary also, because these guys get away with it over and over again for years sometimes.
Again, my heart goes out to the wives and children.

It's sickening to me. How can these men give themselves permission and think that's its alright for them to engage in these sick fantasies and to act upon them, yuck yuck!

Isn't that the truth?? Even if it was, who would believe a person who set out to do such a diabolical thing just happen to think of it this one time??

Speaking of diabolical--one guy wanted the young girl to perform sexual acts on a cat first . What are these guys thinking??? Even if one had such deviant thoughts why impose and destroy someone else with that crap???

I mean come on... why destroy someone else?? It all goes to show we have to take this so serious and be watchful of what is going on in our neighborhoods and at home.

I'd rather take the eye rolling of a teen who feel I infringed on them snooping than to subject them to this type of abuse unaware !!!

What gets me, besides the scariness of the whole predator thing, is how CREEPY some of these guys are. Being the stepmom of a fourteen-year-old, I wouldn't want her opening the door to anybody like that!

I find myself wondering what happens afterward...like when the wives found out. Especially with the guy who brought his five-year-old to his liason with a supposedly teen boy. I wonder if they did a follow up on stuff like that if it would deter anyone else from making that "mistake".
