Looking at this verse in Romans 13:8 appears to be not to borrow. I see lending without my profit a good thing. I use discretion when giving to a beggar-- will he buy food or beer ? I saw in Barnes notes about usury and how it can bring bondage. In Psalms 15:5 his comments about usury.

I think in means to make someone under a moral obligation.
Blessings

No that is not what the word of God says. If we are going by the word of God then when we help someone we keep helping till they are back on their feet. But giving them money and thinking we did some good yet only to find out they are out there the next day still asking. I don't give them money in the city. There are way to many Churches and other places willing to help them get back on their feet. I will give food and clothes. But to give all away would be foolish.

The rich man walked away believing he kept all the law. Yet one must keep reading because that is not where that ends. Most stop there not reading the rest.
