For those of you who say that tithing is for the church I ask this one question.

How come Paul is giving instructions to the church at Corinth and Galatia about giving if they were tithing. This is in 1 Corinthians 1-2 . Some of them were Jews converted to the faith so why is Paul asking them to give if they were already tithing. Would they not have continued to tithe or is it showing that they were not giving at all and this is why Paul speaks to them as He did? Take note it says concerning the collection for the Saints. Paul is not telling them to tithe as is preached today because the tithe was over and done. Was not Paul a saved Jew? Did He ever speak of tithing?
As each man purposes in His heart. Read Duet. 14 and then follow this up with 2 Corinthians 8 and 9. They give a wealth of insight into the true meaning of giving.

He is talking about the money they are giving Him to go towards the Lords work. He doesn't say that you shouldn't give to the church, he is just praiing them for the gifts they are giving to Him. That is how Paul survived! Think of it as a 1st century Missions fund raising letter. :)

On tithing though... The old testement law of 10% was completed in Christ and at the same time shifted to giving everything to the glory of God!

Under the law a tithe was required. Under grace we are instructed to give as much as we can with a cheerful heart. (2 Corinthians 9:7) But we are also warned that "He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully." (2 Corinthians 9:6)

But the tithe required under the law certainly indicates what God considers a reasonable amount to give. And remember that even when the tithe was required under the law, offerings over and above that amount were encouraged.

I have found in my personal life that for many years I could never get ahead. (I gave very little.) But in later years, after I began to give freely, my limited funds just seemed to go farther! And my (supposedly fixed) retirement income keeps increasing!

That passage about he who sows sparingly is one of the most missed used passages in this discussion. Who is it that gives seed to the sower. God. What is it that we are to sow bountifully. The word given to us in understanding that we may reap more understanding of God's purpose in the earth.

The seed we are to sow is the word of God, given by God for the edification of those who hear it and understand. The word says that the collection is for the saints, not a building. It should be dispersed to the church members as they have need. Is this done today in the tithing preaching ministries.

The tithe was a manditory sacrifice which we are no longer obligated to pay. We are our brothers keeper and should conduct our finances to reflect this principle. Not paying the lights and gas and beautifying the sanctuary so the we can worship in comfort and safety. God is our refuge in all things. Have faith in Him and he will provide all your NEED. Not needs as is often preached. He is our NEED. Did Christ die in vane for you to continue on under the law.?

Just recently came across some eye opening changes which have been made in the scripture concerning the tithe.

In the Codex Sinaiticus and the Texus Receptus, which are two of the oldest manuscripts, both say this in Mal. 3:10

Bring all the tithe into the storehouse so that there may be food in My house..........Whether I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour out a blessing until there is no sufficiency." And I will rebuke your devourer and He shall not decay the fruit of your ground against you, nor shall your vine miscarry against you in the field.

Doesn't sound to much like many of the modern day translations now does it. The Lord warned of the changes at the end of the book of Revelation and Satan has been shifting the word for many seasons to put you on the wide path. The tithe is not what it is being preached and you were only to give it in the year of your increase. Not from you weekly labor. They lie to you constantly and you accept it face value because you are looking to gain something for your works. The only thing you will gain is possible damnation or loss of reward. I choose Christ and Him cruxified, nothing else will suffice. You can't pay your way into heaven.

It is my understanding that the farming landowners WERE expected to tithe, but the field workers WERE NOT expected to tithe. Farming was not the only economy at the time, by the way, and this would imply that tithing was for the wealthy but not the poor.

Tithing was about food (not about building church buildings). The food could be converted to money if the distance to Jerusalem was too far, then redeemed at the temple.

Christ was the mediator of the new covenant. Notice how he diminishes the importance of the tithe when he chided the Pharisees' practice of tithing even the leaves of spices but omitted the great spiritual aspects of the law: justice, mercy, and faithfulness; the foundation of the new covenant.

"These ought ye have done, and not left the other (tithing) undone."

The early church still kept the law as the Levitical priesthood was still in force. They had to tithe to the Levites as well as support the new covenant ministry.

To teach men to give God the glory and take care of the levites.

If the early church were still under the law, then Christ would have died in vain and Paul would not have had to ask them to give for they would already have been doing it. The law was fulfilled in Christ and is no longer mandated in the natural but by His Spirit.

When Jesus spoke to the Pharisees about tithing, He was still walking the earth in human form. When he died and was resurrected, the law was placed in Him, the true ark, which is symbolized in the Old testament by Moses placing the law in the ark. Be not deceived, we are not to give money as a tithe for they had money back then but God did not require money then nor now.
