Hi !

I just wished to know if the complete Tithe has to go to church where I attend or whether it can be divided and given to various ministries.

Actually what i have been doing is,divide the Tithe money into parts and sent a part to local church and remaining to various other ministries.

*Is that correct?

For eg lets say Tithe money is 400$.I would divide it into 100$ and send it to four different places including the church.

Is that fine?

Plz let me know....

Thanx

People are going to have a lot of differences of opinions on this I believe.
I believe you have to do what you feel lead to do.

I believe giving to the local congregation is important.
I also believe giving to other ministries is also very worthwhile.
I personally think splitting your tithe is fine.

Hi Prem,

Like the first commenter has mentioned, it depends on your congregation. However, at my church it is recommended that you split up your tithing and that it is a good idea is to give half to church and the other half to other ministries. Perhaps it makes your giving a little bit more active? I'm not sure of the exact reason.

Of course that is just an idea!

Malachi 3:10 " Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house Test me in this, says the Lord almighty, and see if I will not open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing, that you will not have room enough for it."

This tells me that we should be able to trust in our church's leadership to be led by God to disperse the funds where necessary to build up His kingdom, and that the storehouse is not "ours to decide". I've heard people say that.

Sometimes we prove our trust in the Lord by giving away that which a lot of people "trust", namely their money. I suspect this is why tithing is such a hot topic.

Thanx all,for the replies. So the understanding is,Give primarily to the local church, which is important;but,we need not always give complete tithe to local church, but give a part of it to other ministries also.
So when God says, bring Tithe to "storeHouse",it not necessarily mean, single church, but it can be any ministry, ministering unto God;But again,we should primarily support the local church.

Thanx! Thanx to sachi, janny,NZ and Magnify !!

I would NEVER give my entire tithe to my local parish unless I knew exactly where that money was going. Most honest churches will accept and even encourage you to split your tide as long aas it is going to a ministry of the Lord. The rest, well, the church I attended in Chicago for a while thought it was necessary to use the money to fly the head pastor to his summer home in Michigan on the churches private jet every weekend.

I dont believe you understand what tithing is. Or what it was meant to be for. Look at it for a minute under old ways. There was a kingdom, and the head of this kingdom was the Temple. Now God set apart many things for the people to do. Not just tithing. But he expected them to give offerings (of their harvests and firstborn) all things set out according to the law under Moses by God.

Later we get little hints in the scriptures what all this means with Jesus for example: Temple tax: What thinkest thou, Simon? of whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? of their own children, or of strangers?

Peter saith unto him, Of strangers, Jesus saith unto him, Then are the children free.

Notwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go thou to the sea, and...

The Lord was angry because his kingdom of priests (the servants in his house) were not doing their job. As Jesus had said to them: How terrible it will be for you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you wont let others enter the Kingdom of Heaven, and you wont go in yourselves.

They were actually making it harder on their fellow man, by making more laws, heavier burdens. And doing nothing to help carry the load. They were suppose to be the caretakers of God's kingdom.

All the tithes, and offerings were theirs. Of course the Lord took up his part of the offerings, the burnt part (I couldnt tell you all of it) but I know the priests had been given special favor. For example showbread they were allowed to eat. Parts of the offering. So they were servants of God.

Now the people outside of the kingdom who give their part also should get benefits of living in the kingdom of God. They have paid their tribute and their tax money to the temple, and their tithes.

The protection of knowing God is among them. Knowing the word of God will be spoken to them. (That there shouldnt be a famine for the word of God among the people). There should not be people outside the temple begging for food. (This is my opinion, but this is how I feel). I would live in a kingdom where everyone benefits.

So now, we have to think on relative terms. We now have Jesus, the Son of God. The kingdom has only changed in the fact that we must now believe that God sent us Jesus his Son, his heir to the throne of David. The Kingdom of Heaven. But we are still to inherit the Kingdom of Heaven.

So when we give these things, our offerings, our tithes, our temple taxes, it is to build the Kingdom of God. Except now for us, we dont have to expect to get anything back from our temple priests, we get our reward from God himself. We have totally bypassed the priests.

And I personally dont believe all of our offerings to the Lord are physical. But spiritual. Such as giving of ourselves. All to further the Kingdom of God.

God Bless.

Some churches I have attended have always given a fixed percentage of tithes to various missionaries with the rest supporting the minister, students at bible college and the various outreach activities of the church. If your church does that then you may want to consider if you are happy to give to the church and let them split it up. Otherwise spread it around however you want. I agree with Johnnz. Giving is not compulsory. If you are miserable because you are tithing then God would rather you didn't tithe at all.

I believe that your tithe (10% of your income) should be given to your local church congregation. By tithing, you are providing support for those who have given their lives to full-time ministry, and you are enabling your church to fund its ministries. Now, if you have other charities that you want to support, you should give to them after you have already tithed.

According to God's Word, we are to tithe not only 10% of our income, but we are also to tithe our time and tallent to the local Church, and our offerings are above and behond that 10% that we initially give.

You would be surprized how easy it is to live off of the 85-90% of your income than it is to live off of the 100%.....I dare you to try it.....It works!!!!

10% of your income , if you donn't pay it you will be cursed with a cursed you should pay your tiths first. If you ever like need money or something God will remeber you paying you tiths and will bless you for it. Sometimes people have blessing waiting but they fail to pay and they can loose it we are also to give offering and vowels to the Lord.Hope this helps if you go to the back of you bible in the glossary look up tiths , offereing, vowels.

I've never heard of our personal time as a "tithe". I don't know if that is in scripture. Malachi 3:10 says to bring THE tithe.

We are to give our time surely, but I think that may be an argument so people don't have to give their ..umm...err...money.

I give the money to my church, the youth center people i meet thet need it or feed whoever,or fix something for somebody or whatever .I think tithes are what you have to give freely given for the joy of all.If you support your church with some of it ,then the rest is ok to pass around..I am sure God will trust you to diberse the money to whever you feel drawn to contribute.A set percentage is not written in stone .

As some others have said, you must follow the Holy Spirits guiding. A lot of the tithing is in the OT and went toward the Lev. Priests. We are now to give cheerfully and from the heart. Jesus doesn't want us to be selfish with it, however. We are to help people in need. What do you think He would choose in this situation? The Church just because that is tradition or the elderly lady who can't afford to buy medication or clothes? There is a reason we have the Holy Spirit in us. We have to listen to what G-d wants from each of us. If you feel guilty about giving every penny you have to your own Church, then that is the Holy Spirit talking to you. I do not give 10% every week or even once a month. I give when I can. I do give once a month to our Pastor's son who is a missionary to Czech republic to teach english and G-d's word. They only have one church there. They do not know the name of G-d. I feel so much better knowing that he is spreading the good news with my money than paying the church's electric bill. Because our Church is whereever we meet. We don't need a building. It is a material thing. But that is MY Spirit talking. No one can judge another's heart, but G-d alone. I think it is commendable that you are sharing your wealth and giving to others who are in real need. If we don't, who would? If everyone was of the opinion to give to their local Church only, a lot of people and missions would be hurting. Not all Churchs are honest or even teaching G-d's Word. I give of my time if I can and so does my husband. I still see G-d's blessings in our life. Helping us just when we need it. He is an Awesome, Loving, Merciful, G-d who knows you truely care. I'm sure He loves your giving Spirit!!
