  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hey guys I just wanted to share 5 powerful tips on beating temptation.

1. Know That God Isn't Against You- James 1:13 says "When tempted, no one should say God is tempting me. For God cannot be tempted with evil, nor does he tempt anyone.

2. God Sets Us Up To Win- 1 Corinthians 10:13 says "No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it."

3. Know The Enemies Tactics- The devil uses three basic tempting tactics. Lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. Any temptation you can think of will fall into one of those categories.

4.Know God's Word- When Jesus was in the wilderness he used scripture to combat the temptations of the devil, and if Jesus used it and it was effective we should also.

5. Know God's Grace- The truth is we aren't going to win every battle, and God knows that. Remember Jesus took the wrath that God had for you upon himself, so instead of feeling guilty be thankful for God's love and grace, and the obedience of Jesus.

I find it easy enough to do what I think is right. When I find myself struggling, it's usually because I'm trying to act according to someone else's beliefs instead of my own. So I would say that the #1 motivator is actually believing in the rules that you're trying to make yourself follow. And if you don't believe in it yourself, then ask yourself why you're really spending time trying to fit that mold.

I try and remain in God's Love. Most temptations (at least for me), are the result of fear. Fear of not fitting in, fear of missing out, fear of not being good enough, fear of losing friends, ect. Because Love casts out all fear, I focus on God's Love He has for me and the temptations fades away.

When you remember God's Grace and Love, you don't really desire anything else.

Immensely helpful! I especially like the last one "be thankful for the obedience of Jesus" That's beautiful; a highly biblical narrative! Thank you for the great reminder.
