  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I disagree with: 5,8,17,18,39.

Interesting...

I think a movie is bad first date. No one talks so you don't get to know each other. You can go to a movie alone.

I don't know know about the shaving with the grain but it makes sense to me....

You obviously do not realize how much time many women put in picking out their shoes. I had in instructor who said after she had knee surgery and started to wear "sensible but ugly shoes", she would bring the shoes she bought to match the outfit to class and leave them on her desk so they would know what she was supposed to look like that day. I'm not like that (I'm shoe challenged) but I know many women who the way to their heart is through shoes.

And I think 39 is very good advice if you ever want to get noticed. If you don't, then I guess it doesn't matter.

19 sounds really stupid, you cannot fake confidence, you either have it or you don't.. if you try to fake having confidence, people will likely be able to see through you

This is old advice and I think there is a lot of wisdom in it.

"Fake it until you make it".

Trust me, you don't want your nurse to admit or show you that you are the first human body you have done this procedure on even though you are very capable of doing it on plastic manikins. ;)

I kind of skipped through the list. I thought it was just about dating advice at first. I read numbers 3 and 22 and wondered what type of dates the author had been on. Then I realized it was general advice, not just about dating - at least I hope so. Let's see, number 27 is good advice, especially if you also observe number 24.

Number 24 needs enlarging a bit.

Never loan money to a friend or relative. If the money isn't paid back, you lose the money and the friendship. If you think the cause is just and you have the money, make it a gift. No strings attached. That way, you can't lose the money since it's a gift, and you don't risk the friendship because there's no obligation to pay back a gift.

i don't like #39 either. i like to be comfortable. i'm not going to dress up every time i go out. i think it's shallow to judge somebody based on looks anyway. other than that i think most of them are good.

Number 39 doesn't say "dress up" anywhere it in.

And honestly, you DON'T judge women on THEIR looks? Really?

When I go out to places that 20-40 year olds hang out on Friday of Sat. night they aren't dressed up very much. Most have jeans and a dark shirt quite often a tee shirt on. The first time I went to one of those places I was way over dressed.

Yes, things have changed quite a bit in that regard. I've seen this too. Basically the only places you see people "dressed up" anymore is at weddings and funerals, and maybe not even then.

My pastor comes to church in jeans and a Tee-shirt. On Sunday morning. To preach the sermon.

Not that I'm complaining, I actually enjoy a more relaxed atmosphere. But, it's a looooonnnnng way from back in the day when you wouldn't set foot in the sanctuary in anything less than the best clothes you could get.

In a way, it may be more in keeping with the way Jesus is actually likely to meet you. He'll choose a time when you're changing wheel bearings on you vehicle, you're up to your armpits in grease and dirt and the cleanest clothes you have on aren't generally viewable to the public. Somehow, your "Sunday Best" never impressed Him a whole lot, He likes getting real with you. There are few times you're more real than you are when you're involved in a heavy job.

That's how it is at my church too. I'm glad because if people are dressing up for church, usually it is to impress others, not because we fear a Holy God. I do think we could use a little more respect though. Like I hate seeing short shorts in church worn by young adults or super revealing tops.
In Italy, you cannot as a woman, wear pants or shorts or sleeveless tops into the churches there.

Even the pastor at my church has just changed to dress down a little from a sports coat and tie. He as on vacation for a couple of weeks and visited churches all all the pastors but one was dressed down some a lot. So he relaxed the dress code that he had for those that were on the platform. Cracked me up as I never heard of a dress code for a church's platform before!
