The devil will indeed do all he can to keep you from praying. The best way to be consistent is to live in a posture of prayer, doing so throughout the day. That's not actually too hard as long as you learn to generally make shorter prayers (remember Jesus' command to not make lengthy prayers), from the heart.

Here's a good sermon on praying:

I think we are all pretty deficient in our prayer life. The pace of life tends to squeeze out important things like prayer, spending time with your family, and studying the bible. I have found occasionally that for a particular situation that fating is useful in reminding me to pray more frequently. I don't know if there are any other benefits to fasting, but the frequent hunger pangs at least tend to remind me to pray.

What helps me is when I first realize I am awake, I am waiting on God to have me be the way He wants me to be. Then pray how He has me praying. And then stay submissive all the time like I am in first prayer of the day.

And when I fail in this . . . trust Him to clear me of wrong things, and to have me doing better, not knowing what He will do, since God is so more and better and different than we are :)

I have good & bad days in prayer. Whatever, though, I try to have what I consider a minimum and maximum framework in which I pray. I pray for my own well being & salvation and that of my neighbor. I pray the golden rule ( Matthew 7:12), the Lord’s commandments ( Matthew 22:36-40), & for evangelism ( “Lord of the harvest” per Matthew 9:35-38 but mostly verses 36-38 & the Lord’s Prayer ( Matthew 6:9-13).

I pray in other ways of course but I think about this framework of same beginning & end along the lines of the Lord as our beginning & end ( Revelation 1:8). It takes me about 2 minutes to pray these words in my head.

There is " ... when you pray, go into your room, close the door, and pray to your Father in secret..." Matt 6:6 There will be interruptions but we don't need to pursue them at that pont in time. Just spend a time deliberately focusing on God.

Also, we"re to "Pray without ceasing." (I Thess 5:17). ' How is that even possible? We can look for opportunities such as seeing someone struggling or realizing they are, hearing an ambulance, seeing a news report, sending the kids out to door for school,, thankful for family & friends, plus those emphasized in Scripture such as pray for the peace of Jerusalem (Psa 122:6), for those in authority, and even on behalf of everyone (I Tim 2).

Additionally, there are important elements of prayer including praise, thanksgiving, forgiveness, and repentance (Matt 6, Psa 100:4, 107:1, Eph 5:20, Jam 1:17, Heb 13:15, Rev 2-3).

Prayer is communicating with the Only One True God.
