If you have read the Luminaries sections of Enoch (Book I) then you may have encountered the breakdown of how a complete 24 hour day has 18 parts.
It seems that according to Enoch, these parts are essentially hours of a day but unlike a 60 minute hour. It seems more like the hour was would have to always be carefully the same no matter what time of the year.
At most there would be 12 hours (in peak of summer) referring only to the hours in the day (light) portion of a day.
This is actually a quite brilliant piece of work. With a sundial that could track this you would always be able to keep a consistent hour length and also know what season your in and how far into the season you are by this method.
This means that an hour by this method is more like 80 minutes in length verses the 60 minute length we use today. If a sundial such as this were used at the time of Christ, then it means the times mentioned in the Bible with regards to the Crucifixion were not 60 minute hours but 80 minute hours putting His Death right at the top of the Evening.
