  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I have watched the Lego Batman Movie 2.5 times this past week, and I don't regret a second of it. That movie is fantastic.

I think we all feel this way sometimes LOL I love to run but it's been so hot that I haven't been doing it. My doctor told me that it doesn't take look long to get out of shape which is so discouraging. It takes so long to get in shape...seems only fair it should take just as long to get out of it :D

My confession -

They had my 30th HS reunion this past Saturday, and I take a certain degree of pleasure seeing that I have aged better than the majority of them. lol

Wow! 30years. Do a lot of people attend these reunions? I can't even imagine where I will be then. I stay in contact with my besties from high school, but I can't imagine there is any reason why I'd even want to go back to a reunion in 30 years.
Good for you.
What do you do at these reunions?

I actually didn't end up going - for a couple of reasons. Primarily because I now live on the other side of the country (I grew up in Los Angeles - but now live on the East Coast). I visited back in March - and had my fill of LA for a good while - so just didn't see clear to go back this time. :)

BUT.

My graduating class was about 800 people. Of that - apparently about 150 showed up. They get together, talk about old times, dance, drink, reminisce, etc.

I hit twenty years this year (eek) and I must admit I haven't gone to any. At first I kind of felt like why would I want to perpetuate the cliquey nastiness of my high school experience; and then when I was old enough to feel comfortable in my own skin at the idea, I'd moved, changed name, etc, and I don't think I ever bothered to give them my new details, because I don't receive stuff from them any more.

I went to the 10 year - and it was the cliquish thing you’re describing. I think 10 years is still too close to the experience for people to have mellowed out. I wasn’t impressed.

But I’ve heard that’s normal for most reunions. Supposedly by the time you hit 20+ people have started becoming more normal.

That’s what I’ve heard about my 20 and 30 - but I’ve missed both of them for various reasons.

Next month will have our 45th. I will not be in attendance as it feels like I just got back from burying my mom. (April) Not ready to go back yet.

truthfully - my reason for not going is similar to yours - albeit the timing is a bit different.

My folks passed away in 2006 and 2008, respectively. Last time I was out in CA was 7 years ago - after I sold my childhood home and before we closed escrow - so I could go through it one last time for nostalgia's sake.

I went back in March - and visited my old neighborhood. My old childhood home had been torn down and some little McMansion had been put up in it's place. Also, pretty much all of the little ranch style homes that were in my neighborhood when I was growing up had also been torn down. So, while it was my childhood street, it was just foreign to me.

In a lot of ways - that kind of drilled home the fact my folks are gone in a concrete way. I mean, I can't go home again, literally. Not even to see the home. It's just not there.

That kind of unmoored me more than I thought it would and depressed me. I didn't have a good time out there. And - I just didn't want to go back this soon after.
