  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I like Tim Burton. I like Johnny Depp.

But lately it seems like there are just way too many films with this combination. Edward Scissorhands was a good film. But to me, that's where the Burton/Depp partnership should have taken a breather.

Johnny Depp and the Chocolate Factory? I had such high hopes for this movie. Loved the original film. Loved the book. But this remake was horrible, I'm sorry.

Now it's Johnny Depp in Wonderland.

When will the madness stop??

They obviously get along very well! I find it funny and rather endearing.

Out of interest, do you just not like the films, or do you not like the films because they've worked together too much?

The Charlie and the Chocolate Factory movie was a real disappointment to me. That's the main thing that has made me leery of any new movies. But I do have some hope still.

I haven't seen Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The trailer looked a bit too trippy for my taste. And I didn't particularly enjoy Edward Scissorhands either - I know it's generally held to be an amazing film, but it made me quite uneasy, I didn't like the concept.

However I absolutely loved Sleepy Hollow.

charlie and the chocolate factory was brilliant!! Far to under-rated I say :) I mean Tim Burton does happen to be my favorite director so that might have something to do with it.

The movie displayed Wonka as this creepy, very disturbed, child in a grown man's body. which bothered alot of people. However these people have images of the old classic in their heads which was incredibly far removed from the original story book. the original story book DOES display wonka like the newer movie does..... and it is the great irony of the entire story. The old classic is good and a feel good movie for children. but I would call that one BASED on the original book at best.... it just wasn't like the original story at all.

i actually liked charlie and the chocolate factory, although i knew going in that it wouldn't be able to compare with the original version. thats the one i grew up with so that would be the standard. the remake is cute though. i like the twist that Johnny Depp gave to the character of Willy Wonka that differed from Gene Wilder's version.

i think Depp and Burton make a great team. Johnny Depp likes playing the bizarre roles, and Tim burton likes creating bizarre movies. hence they work well together.

I couldn't watch the new Willy Wonka movie. I saw parts and it was awful. The original movie was fantastic. The new movie shares the event sequence of the book for the most part but the plot is totally different. The original movie was actually pretty faithful, IMO.

Roger Ebert (about Charlie):

"What was Depp thinking of? In Pirates of the Caribbean he was famously channeling Keith Richards, which may have primed us to look for possible inspirations for this performance. But leaving Pirates aside, can anyone look at Willy Wonka and not think of Michael Jackson?"

the only thing that was off was the flashback scenes, which I admit was kind of unneeded and the movie would've been better without em [I mean Wonka reuniting with his father that he hasn't seen in decades? Come on!! You can't be serious]. However the rest of the movie was great! :) And pretty straight forward to the book as far as I'm concerned :) I really enjoyed the humor as well.... Johnny Dept made a HILARIOUS Wonka!
