Any search on the net regarding a SHTF situation has the attitude of you need to protect yours and all others are to be regarded as the enemy to drive away because they want yours. If that advice is followed then it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy with everyone waiting for their turn to die. This mind set needs to be broken now because it will be more destructive than the event that brought about the situation in the first place.

If civilization gets knocked back to the start then the best way to handle it is to start again in the same way that everything was successfully built in the first place, but without the control freaks regulating everything to death, Families coming together to help each other, Family groups cooperating together to form stronger communities. Communities trading with each other to their mutual benefit. That is the mind set that has to be implanted now before everything goes to pieces.

If you are planning on prepping then consider, “What can you do to make yourself the go to guy for something.”

Do you have a well, can you become the guy that rations out safe drinking water on a daily basis. Think installing hand pumps while they are still cheap. Do you have a solar panel, can you be the go to guy for battery charging. Have a horse, get a buggy so you become the taxi guy. Green house, collect seeds for the others and teaching. Got some land, open it up for community gardens. Twenty kids with bicycles and small trailers replace a large truck running between the farmers and the towns for food produce.

This is the type of thing you need to be thinking about, instead of protecting yourself from all others you become indispensable to the community. By the time the stored food is running out the first crops should be coming in.

I recently bought a small welding device with the intent of learning and therefore being of use to a local post Stuff-Hits-the-Fan culture.
Ultimately our plan was to hide. That is, to lay low and attract as little attention as possible. Appear to be just another needy, suffering citizen. Accept gov handouts and whatever else they offer. You will never be able to fend off all the barbarian raiders... so do not even try. Just hide, become invisible if possible. I think things will even out in about 3 months. All the marauders will have either been eliminated or arrested by whatever law enforcement or military there may be left. Not a perfect plan I grant you. But we are in our 60s and bugging out is not an option.
In end, even preppers are going to have to put faith in God first during such a time. But doing nothing I think is betrayal to your family and to some extent, a form of doubt. God warned us for a reason. He warned Noah and as a result of his belief in what God said, he prepped an Ark.

That gave me an idea... maybe one should have a set of old clothes to wear if they need or want to stand in those lines?

God did warn everyone before His actions. And yes, the Book of Revelation is a giant warning.

But God also told the people what to do... to prevent or because of the coming doom. Jesus told us to LOOK UP, COMFORT ONE ANOTHER WITH THESE WORDS.... redemption draws nigh. :)
No where is there a list or even a hint of any kind as to stocking up on water, food, weapons, etc.

None the less, since there is prediction of natural disasters, stocking up might be a good idea for those. Floods, forest fires, earthquakes, all of these could necessitate stocking up (and having a BOB ready) at least for a 2 weeks stint.

One thing I learned...don't have your 'stuff' in various places/rooms ... put it equally in two different areas.

After Hurricane Andrew, with the roof gone, the rain came soaking the plasterboard ceilings, which then dropped along with the insulation etc. A big mess...but also made it very difficult to open room doors or access the items in the rooms.

Never expecting the entire house to compromised, the batteries were in one closet, the candles in another, the matches in another drawer, the tarps in the garage on one side, flashlights and camp stove in another...etc etc etc. Having to climb over debris and digging stuff out from each room was exhausting physically and emotionally especially when something needed could not be found.

I caution having it all in one place in case that is the only room or area affected. But I'd definitely put the same supplies in 2 areas in case you lose one in a natural disaster.

Living in an apartment, I cannot really do that. I don't have a lot of space. This is a brick building though, and we are inland, so hurricanes are not really an issue here. Snow (as in blizzards) can be, as are forest fires our biggest danger, living in the mountains in a National Forest.

Song unless you are in a studio, you probably have things all over the apartment and would have to dig through each room, trying to open doors with stuff all over the floor or whatever.... think about it. But at least do have a Go Bag near the door or easy access. :)
