Three days on the Cross??

Today I read an article about "Christ's Resurrection after three days on the Cross"

I thought Jesus lasted 6 hours?

Christ was only on the cross for one day, well, as you out it, 6 hours.

Three days dead, then the resirrection, not three days on the cross. Also, there was an annual sabbath observed the week of the Passover celebration called Nisan which started on Wednesday night at sundown. Jesus was crucified on that Wednesday, before the annual Nisan sabbath. Jesus rose from the grave three days later early Sunday morning before Mary Magdalene arrived:

The Jewish day begins @ 6pm, so Friday was 6pm our thursday.

Check the link given earlier. Friday evening to Sunday morning just doesn't add up to three days buried in the tomb which is what Jesus prophecied of Himself.

Ancient people classed a part day as a full day when referring to the amount of days between two days. Even if there was one minute before the end of Friday, it counted as a full day. Thus there were three days between Friday and Sunday in ancient terms, even if it doesn't count as three full days in the modern sense. Applying modern ideas to historical events is a big no-no.

Normal crucifixions lasted up to three days, and few criminals comdemned to them got a burial. But crucifixions at such an important religious time in Judea were shortened by sticking a spear behind the knees and breaking the legs, thus the crucified would die of asphyxiation, unable to lift themselves up to take a breath. This was to stop the Jews rioting because it was breaking Sabbath law. But Jesus was dead before then so prophesy would be fulfilled.

In our modern thinking, assuming Jesus died on a Friday and was buried an hour before sunset, if we say Jesus rose after three days, he rose again on Monday just before sunset. But if we say he rose again on the third day, he rose anytime on a Sunday. The argument used in this book is that nowhere in the Bible (OT or NT) is the distinction made between "after three days" and "on the third day", and they are interchangable (as is "one day and one night"). This would imply as most ancients didn't know the sun revolved around the Earth, their concept of a day was different to ours, and parts of days counted as days in a count such as this.

A day has always been 24 hours no matter where you start it. My Savior fulfilled scripture to the "t". 3 days in and on the first day of the week out of the grave He arose. No one will belittle His sacrifice by denying this fact, I will stand on this in faith. A Friday theory just don't cut it.
