  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Another Trump classic from Twitter about 5 hours ago. (Sorry, I cannot seem to figure out how to link anything here from my new phone today; don't ask me how. But the tweet is right there for all to see on his account.)

"If Iran wants to fight, that will be the official end of Iran. Never threaten the United States again!"

.... Why is this kind of behavior seemingly okay with some? He could seriously - once again - be playing with all of our lives. Yeah, we'd probably win in a war against Iran, but will it be before a million Americans are blown up on account of one guy up in the White House. staff edit

There is a segment of America that loves the idea of having a "tough" President.

The same segment of America that hated Obama for being smart and was over critical of him being "weak". They would often say, "Well, if only we had a tough President then the world would "respect" us and then we'd magically get everythin we wanted. this was the narrative time and time again with Obama...

Now, we have a "tough" President and many in America are now happy.

Blame the Ayatollahs for a change, they are the ones that continue to foment hostilities worldwide.
World peace isn't free...neither is a nation's freedom. It's cost is usually in battlefield blood and is more reason to thank a soldier.

Right! So let's go making things even worse with direct threats! Let's further tick them off!

Thankfully a certain rich boy who is talking the big talk on Twitter right now will never have to share in that cost ... you know, bone spurs and all.

Totally false narrative. Iran does not "foment hostilities worldwide." They don't leave their backyard.

It's Saudi Arabia that continues to foment hostilities worldwide

There's a time for tact and a time for bluntness. I'm not sure which of those two things is appropriate in this case....but he's not the first president to threaten foreign nations.

You do realize that "Ayatollahs" are the direct consequence of CIA coup of 1953

1953 Iranian coup d'état - Wikipedia

when US upturned a democratically elected government and put up a cruel dictator that gave opportunity for Iran`s current rulers to use the discontent to rise to power.

Iran has been itching for a fight with us ever since they overthrew our Democratically chosen leader for them in 1979.

The problem as I see it is that this administration does not have the gray matter to distinguish between those two times, nor do they know how to pull either off effectively.

I have no confidence in this administration to engage effectively on the world stage without either getting outplayed or making a bad situation worse.

The way we were outsmarted by NK, the chest thumping with China that is resulting in a host of unintended consequences, the way we criticize our closest allies and pick fights with them *cough Canada cough*

I'm sorry. At some point you just have to see this administration for what it is, and this administration is just incompetent on pretty much every level on almost every issue.

I feel like for everything this administration does right, for every step they take forward they take two steps back and then blow a toe off with a shotgun...

It is so embarrassing I can't even watch the President on TV anymore

Trump only really has a bludgeon. In a world where you only have a bludgeon, everything looks like a skull you need to crack.

If this was about all those other issues....I'd agree.

I just don't know enough about this issue to say what is wrong.

The situation in Iran leading up to the Revolution is a lot more complicated than that. Even at the time of the Revolution you had communists, liberal democrats and Islamists vying for power in the aftermath. The Islamists won, but the country today is as much a military kleptocracy as it is an Islamic theocracy.

Direct result of US meddling so why is nobody surprised....

Even leaving that aside what grounds has US for demanding that sovereign states do not pursue nuclear weapons technology while US has huge stockpiles of the things ?

Especially since there was a treaty that was followed to the letter which US reneged and now decides to use threats and economic coercion to achieve same results.

Might makes right ?

The U.S. hasn't "meddled" in Iran since 1979.

That would be the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, to which all declared nuclear powers are signatories along with Iran.

Before you start lecturing me or arguing against a straw American, you might want to ask me about my opinions regarding Trump and his "policies" toward Iran viz. the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.

And I'll just leave this photo as a hint.

Another CIA insertion plan for future coups ?

Good point on Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty although I guess the current US sanctions would justify easily invoking article X and just giving 90 day notice and leaving the treaty.

I can see attempting to have a sincere discussion is futile. You'd rather argue against a straw American. I'll let you go find one.

It was sincere humour. So you think US will hit Iran ?
