In contrast to the linked article saying :
... "Those Chilean critics were vehemently denounced by Pope Francis until he completed reversed himself. "

I only remember the pope saying there could be calumny against some bishops, which we know with our 20/20 hindsight wasn't a good thing to say.

But didn't Peter make an even worse mistake? (Galatians 2)

And Francis said:
“Here I feel bound to express my pain and shame at the irreparable damage caused to children by some ministers of the church,” Francis told Chilean government officials, including President Michelle Bachelet, lawmakers and the diplomatic corps in Santiago. “I am one with my brother bishops, for it is right to ask for forgiveness and make every effort to support the victims, even as we commit ourselves to ensuring that such things do not happen again.”

I think it's the money they bring in.
I definitely think the money they take in definitely makes them feel they can basically do what they want. Regardless of what the Vatican says.

Well yeah, do the math. And that firs not count the donations.
What do you mean by the money they (Germany) bring in? I thought churches in Germany were tax funded.

Well yeah, do the math. And that does not count the donations. I posted an article about it not too long ago. they get the cash regardless.
