CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

When we get a troll on the site the normal procedure is to emergency ban, as well as banning that person it removes all their posts from the forum. If one of those posts is the OP of a thread then the thread is automatically deleted too.

How did you decide that OP poster was a troll? I mean, he/she didn't come across as very much whackier than some others on this board -- I could name names, but won't.

I couldn' agree more. And the thread wasn't particularly offensive or disturbing like the ones I mentioned before-advocating incestual relationships. Sure, it was a little nutty, a little left field, but that's what made it so good!

We don't have an official criteria but generally if we are looking at a member to see if they're a troll we look at the length of time on the forum, post count, post history, number of reports. Trolls are generally new members with a low post count, the vast majority of posts are flames or sexually explicit - and because of that they get reported a lot. That's normally our first clue of a troll - a large number of reports on a member whose name we don't recognise.
