  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm curious on what your thoughts are on millennials entering into ministry leadership. Some of the older millennials are reaching their 30's or mid 30's, and are beginning to represent our churches.

How do we pray for our ministries going forward?

Millennials will fill the ministry sooner or later. No avoiding this.

Well, I'm 36 and in ordained ministry. I don't consider myself a millennial, but I suppose I'm sitting on the cusp of that demographic.

There are good things about having diversity in our ministers; people who are older and younger, men and women, different personality types and cultural backgrounds and all the rest of it. I think young people have a lot to bring; we are naturally future-focused, (rather than looking back to the past as a golden age - a good thing in church leadership) and we have energy and enthusiasm that sometimes our older colleagues have dampened over time.

How to pray for us, I think pray for wisdom, for maturity, that we will be surrounded by mentors and those who will guide us well. Pray that youth doesn't lead us into arrogance or insensitivity but into respect and love for those we serve.

God can use anyone - and does. Each new generation is faced with certain similar challenges regarding age demographics, but also their own unique challenges having to do with the times...and these are some seriously strange times. So...I would say to pray for the challenges of these times, that they meet the needs in good time and not be taken by surprise, but guided by God in a way that only He can navigate the storms.
