There was a priest in NY, Fr. Dennis Kelleher of the Marian Healing Ministry, who traveled around giving "healing Masses" in the 1980's and 90's. He has passed away now.
I attended one of his Masses and several of my family members did at different times. One of my nieces experienced an immediate healing; in several other cases family members recovered, but not immediately or dramatically.
One family member with a serious chronic illness said, "Sometimes the "healing" is the grace to accept the illness you have."
I remember that Fr. Kelleher said that one must never pray for one's own healing--that one must pray for others.
I felt an outpouring of the Holy Spirit, and it was a powerful emotional experience.
One man told me later that he had never been able to put up a Christmas tree since his son died during the Christmas season many years before. After attending the healing Mass he was able to put up a Christmas tree. That may not seem like much to some, but it was his first step towards closure in the face of overwhelming grief.
In the early Church, Masses weren't stiff and formal with language that was designed to confuse rather than communicate. Charismatic Masses are closer to the early Church than today's "Novus Ordo," which is closer than the "novus ordo" obviously will be in the future.
