What made us win the war?

Larger band size, more sophisticated hunting weapons. (We has to make up for inferior strength).

It's possible that we breed faster. The lighter bone structure and smaller skulls m skulls make pregnancy quicker in sapiens.

Did they live together in a village-like society?

Neanderthals were known live in caves and used caves as sites for their graves so they probably had developed communities within their small bands. But given that they lived mostly by hunting they probably had to migrate after the herds of ice age animals.

If military history is anything to go by, it is often quite hard to learn.
Besides, if early Homo Sapiens only worked by wiping out small groups of Neanderthals, there'd be no Neanderthals to pass on the knowledge of what weapons the Homo Sapiens were using. Quite simple really.

If needed, nomads can form a large group to fight. It is a survival instinct. Why wouldn't Neanderthals know that?

Again, attacking small, isolated groups is very likely what happened. Don't try to imagine what happened as a large conventional war, or even how the Ancient civilizations waged war. This was small bands of Homo Sapiens meeting small bands of Neanderthals and then the former just attacking the latter.

Do you really not know who daft this sounds? Actually, let me replaces some names:
"What I am saying is that Native Americans should not be so stupid to be wiped out by Americans."
"What I am saying is that Aztecs should not be so stupid to be wiped out by Spaniards."
"What I am saying is that Angles should not be so stupid to be wiped out by Saxons."

Groups throughout history have been wiped out or come close to being wiped out. Intelligence on the part of the group being attack has nothing to do with it. Stop thinking in such a black and white manner.

If it did happen, then Neanderthals were not human. They must be monkeys (or whatever better term used). Even they were monkeys, it is not likely they would be wiped out in such a way.

They wore jewellery, used spears, wore clothes, buried their dead and even interbred with us (we both probably have a little Neanderthal in our family tree)... they may have been a little different, but they were hardly "just Monkeys".

Why couldn't they be slowly wiped out? It took many, many thousands of years.

Certainly could. The question is how? I don't think the defeat by Sapiens is a proper reason.

Neanderthals were driven out of areas or absorbed into Sapiens culture. It happens with different cultures of humans all throughout history, just this was separate species.

We have a variety of Sapiens and Neanderthal DNA. The two were separate for thousands of generations.

The two species were separate for longer then grisly and polar bears, but like the bears could form some fertile hybrids.

It's because the empirical, verifiable evidence shows that the Neanderthals did get wiped out. Whether by by Sapiens or Wolves or Bears or Sheep or whatever. The fact is that the Neanderthals did get wiped out. That's the evidence of what happened to Neanderthals. They all died.

I go out with the recognition of reality AND the ability of inquiry and interpretation. Only use the eyes is not enough. We do have brain. That is what kids go to school for.
