In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. I believe that the earth was created as an eternal home for man because 6 days later God created Adam and Eve and they, along with all mankind to come was intended to live forever. Hence, he needed an earth to inhabit. God also created the angels and they were intended to live forever. All three had eternal life.
It didn't take long for sin to enter into the picture, Lucifer and 1/3 of the angels rebelled against God and were sentenced to eternal hell. Man disobeyed God and lost the eternal life that God had given him. The earth became destined to be destroyed by fire along with all the heavens. Even at the end of the 1000 year reign of Christ, Satan is loosed and allowed to roam the earth to deceive all that he can. Those that follow him will be cast into the lake of fire with him.
In the book of Jude, there are other examples:
5 Now I desire to remind you, though you already know this, that the Lord, having saved a people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who didn’t believe. 6 Angels who didn’t keep their first domain, but deserted their own dwelling place, he has kept in everlasting bonds under darkness for the judgment of the great day.7 Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them, having, in the same way as these, given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are shown as an example, suffering the punishment of eternal fire.
I believe that God has shown us by these examples and many other scriptures that His plan is for believers to abide, not to leave. Willful turning from God and choosing to sin without remorse or repentance leads to eternal fire.
If OSAS was true, there would be no need for the shepherd to leave the 99 sheep to look for the one sheep that is lost because it wouldn't be lost. Likewise, the woman would not clean her house to find the one lost coin because it would not be lost.
God would not have put 1 Cor 15:1-2 in the Bible:
Now I declare to you, brothers, the Good News which I preached to you, which also you received, in which you also stand, 2 by which also you are saved, if you hold firmly the word which I preached to you—unless you believed in vain.
Or Col 1:21-23:
21 You, being in past times alienated and enemies in your mind in your evil deeds, 22 yet now he has reconciled in the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and without defect and blameless before him,23 if it is so that you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and not moved away from the hope of the Good News which you heard, which is being proclaimed in all creation under heaven; of which I, Paul, was made a servant.
God is not willing that any should perish, so He made salvation available to all. God is not willing that any believer reject his faith, so Jesus is able to keep you from falling. If a person has rejected Jesus, you can be sure that he was not rejected by Jesus and his leaving was his own choice.
Abide in Christ and you will be kept from falling. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.
