It says in the bible "Thou Shall Not Kill", right?

It seems that God has no compunction about killing. Please clear this one up for me.
Please do not tear up my painting, no matter how bad that you think it is. Leave that prerogative to me...I am the one who painted it and I alone possess the right to dispose of it if I so wish.

So what you are saying is that God created a standard for man, yet he doesn't follow it himself?

Job 1:21 And said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.

In a manner of speaking.

Isa 64:8 But now, O LORD, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.
Isa 55:8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.
Isa 55:9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

It doesn't say "thou shalt not kill". It says, "thou shalt do no murder".

Not all killing is murder and not all killing is condemned by God.

The word we see most commonly translated as "murder" is ratsach.

Ratsach refers specifically to murder, that is, to take upon oneself the perogative to end a human life, which is the perogative of God alone.

Notice that we do not see this word used in reference to killing in capital punishment, self defence, or warfare.

So what you are saying is that God created a standard for man, yet he doesn't follow it himself?

No. All of creation, including man and the life of man, are God's to do with as He pleases. God had the authority and right to give life and only God has the authority and right to take it (excluding, of course, those whom God has charged to act on His behalf).

There are often different standards for those in authority and those in submission to them.

For instance, I forbid my nine year old son from driving my truck, but that doesn't mean that I don't have the right or authority to drive it.

The sixth of the ten commandments reads, “Thou shall not kill.” The New International Version translates it, “Thou shall not murder

This is more accurate because the Hebrew word so translated does not refer to killing in general but to malicious and unlawful killing.
Neither accidental killing (Numbers 35:22-25) nor justifiable homicide (Ex. 22:2) are a breaking of the sixth commandment. Neither killing in war nor capital punishment are necessarily forbidden in this commandment since God required both in certain cases (Ex.21:12).

So the preferred translation is, “You shall not murder.”

Keep in mind, that we are reading a TRANSLATION of a HEBREW WORD, "ratsah", which, it would seem, should be rendered "murder." This root refers only to criminal acts of killing.

God gave a command to His creation to
not go around distroying His creation.

A crude example:
If I made 2 robot, I would not want one to break (kill) the other.
Rather I'd want them both to work according to how I built them.
But If I found one defective and working outside of design parameters,
It would not be a problem for me to turn it off.

No, God eternally had a standard for Himself, which standard or attribute He did not allow in man. His intention was to create a being that was only god-like...Not "God".

God created life, and God created death.

The fact that things have the ability to live and die is not murder or killing. If a tornado kills you, its not God murdering you.

Death is natural.

although I do believe one should not murder ANYTHING if you can avoid it, and that includes killing the name of Uncle Sam.

You shouldn't kill a cow unless that meat will sustain your abilities to create more life than you take.

God made rules for us. I'm sure He made some for himself, but, why would he tell us the rules for Him?

it seems that you think that god should have the same rules for himself as he does for man. Sometimes people think that we should be able to match up with god. yet we cant, we could never fill gods shoes. Im sorry if i offended you in any way thats just my perspective.

God has rights that we do not. Revenge and killing are among them. After all, He can raise the dead if He so chooses. We can't. He is the only creator of life, therefore He is the only one who can rightfully destroy it as He chooses. He has granted human beings permission to execute others in certain limited circumstances, this is the exception to the rule.

Dear livelife 429. You had quite a few replies, and see why you are puzzled. The O.T. is a History of the Israelites, and God had chosen them for Himself. They were surrounded by Heathen tribes and their cruel, and bloodthirsty gods. To exist, and establishing their loving-Jehovah-Nation, they had to fight, and as long as they followed Jehovah`s Guidance, God was on their side. Some killings and bloodletting was necessary, and as Jesus the Prince of Peace, in the N.T. explained to us, " everyone who picks up the sword, must expect to be killed by it." Thus, the killings in the O.T. were wars, and not Killings or Murder. God would never go against the Commandments He gave us, they are given to us out of LOVE for us. I say this humbly and lovingly, livelife, and send greetings. Emmy, your sister in Christ.
