  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Good News Translation, Ez 14:
14 Even if those three men, Noah, Danel [דָּנִאֵל], and Job, were living there, their goodness would save only their own lives." The Sovereign LORD has spoken.
English Standard Version:
even if these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it.
Was it Danel or Daniel?
The usual spelling for Daniel was דָּנִיֵּ֣אל (Da 1:6).
A variant spelling was דָּנִאֵל.
GNT decided to translate the Hebrew spelling דָּנִאֵל as Danel while ESV translated it to Daniel.

I am currently reading Ezekiel in the Jewish Study Bible. Their notes indicate that in Ezekiel, Danel is spelled according to the Canaanite pattern, and they think it probably refers to Dan-El in the Canaanite legend of Aquat that we know about from Ugaritic tablets. In the legend he saves his son from death. Likewise Noah saves his family and Job saves his friends (see Job 42). All three are non-Israelites who were viewed as righteous.
