  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

You know them. Those little quirks your spouse has. Little things he/she does that annoy you to high heaven and back, but you can't imagine them without them. You even love those little oddities. What does your spouse do sometimes that just makes you smack your head?

I'll start since this thread popped into my head as we went to dinner and a movie tonight. My wife always wants a front parking place no matter where she goes. She will ( and I've timed this) drive around for 5 minutes or more looking for the closest parking place available! I tell her that she could have parked at the far end closest to the street and I could have crawled to the front door in the time it took her to drive around and around in an attempt to find the "closer space".

Hehe...I do that driving around the parking lot thing, too. I don't think my hubby thinks it's very cute, though. :)

He sleeps with his eyes open. Sounds creepy, doesn't it? IT IS!! He doesn't do it all the time, and they're only open about halfway but I can't stand it!!! I always have to reach over and close his eyelids...it's really unnerving. And sometimes, even if I close them, they drift back open again. Our oldest daughter, Emily, does it, too. AAAARRRRRGGGGHHH!!!

Love, Heather

:D

Quirks that drive me bonkers:

Leaving the toilet seat up. Either me or our oldest daughter ends up falling in. Quite unnerving first thing in the morning.

His teeth grinding gives me the willies.

If something is bothering him he will notice something that is 2 inches out of place get up, move the item into its correct position, and begin a quest of the house to situate knick-knacks. I really do not understand Y this gets under my skin, but it always does.

My 4yr old daughter does that sometimes too :) Scariest thing to roll over after she's come and crawled in bed with us and see her staring blankly at me with half open eyes!

My husband's most annoying quirk is that he always leaves the cabinet doors and every drawer open. How hard is it to close it????? But I read a thing in Ann Landers or Dear Abby or somewhere from a widow, who had griped about her husband leaving his clothes on the floor or something (my husband does that, too!) his whole life and she was talking about how she'd give anything to have him back leaving his clothes on the floor. So now everytime I am about to say something about those open drawers....I nearly start crying! I am TOO easy.

My husband is an engineer and is very organized in some aspects of his life. He always takes a briefcase wherever he goes. In the briefcase are special pads of paper that he special orders for 4 bucks a pad. He writes his full name and the date in the top right hand corner of each page and numbers the pages. In the briefcase are also a book or two on thermodynamics or some other fascinating topic. Also there is a dictionary, a calculator I will never understand how to use, and a pocket full of pens and pencils in various colors and inks and leads.

More things in there: straightedge rulers, batteries for shortwave radio, Pink Pearl eraser (nothing but Pink Pearl), film canister with change, pocket Bible, manilla folders, 3-ring binder for puting used notepaper in.

I like to call it his purse.

My wife and I discussed this question this morning over breakfast. When she asked what my response was, I told her I couldn't think of anything. And that's the truth.

Now, I am far from perfect, but when there are "quirks that irritate," this shows selfishness on the part of the one being irritated. It puts that persons feelings and actions above the other person. In short, this is idolotry.

Now, I'm sure there are things that my wife does that irritate me, but I don't dwell on them and are therefor not a constant source of irritation to me.

This, I believe, is a gift from God. This is not a commentary on how holy I am. Far from it.

In Jesus example of forgiveness, we are to not only forgive the "quirks" of our brothers, but clean up their mess cheerfully. (70x7)

Peace.

Thats Me whats can i say?
why do we have to make something so little into something big and holy just cause they like or dont like a certain thing about their spouse and they cant imagine them with out it doesnt mean they are commiting idolotry, for once i'd like us to take a subject and discuss it without bringing God into it im not saying i dont love God but something as simple as a persons characteristics dont mean we idolize them, honestly....:( ill come back to this thread when i get married as for now im single! lol cause im only 16 :)

I would have to say that he puffs in his sleep. It's not loud, but loud enough for me to go insane!

Oh, and the fact that he will fall asleep on the couch and when I tell him to go to bed he says "no I want to spend some time with you."

But, I couldn't imagine having it any other way!

Peter, this thread isn't to bash our respective spouses. Far from it. Although those quirks that my wife has can sometimes get under my skin, I love each and every one of them. I can't imagine her without them. She'd be a totally different woman. Again, we're NOT bashing our better halves, this thread is just for fun.

He will not take empty hangers out of his closet.

Has to have every piece of new clothing washed before he will wear it, even socks.

His car is always a mess

His thoughts about mine............

When I come home from work I say hello to the cats before the family. (I do not mean to it is just that they come to great me first)

I do not like to wear shoes or socks and go barefoot most of the time.

I tend to get warm really easy and it drives him crazy that in mid January I can sleep in boxer's a tee shirt and no covers.

But we love each other soooo much!

Funny, my husband and I are the opposite. He is always really warm and I can sleep under two blankets in 80 degree weather. He always wants to turn on the air conditioning and I always think its beautiful. :p

My fiance has some quirks :)

Talking to him after he wakes up he will answer only with "mmhmm" or "mmm mmmm" Even if you ask him a question like "How old are you?, mmhmmm" Its pretty funny, I ask him a million questions every day just to hear him say it.

He also does the parking thing that someone mentioned before.

He is very picky when it comes to food, one thing I got a kick out of when we moved in together is that he will only eat apple Jelly on his peanut butter and Jelly sandwhiches, no grape or strawberry or anything, only apple. :)

Those are just a couple, I'm sure I have a lot.

I know he laughs at me when I'm falling asleep because I twitch, I'll be dreaming and then I will move, like this afternoon I was dreaming about playing basketball and I actually took a shot and woke myself up moving my arms. :)

I have a lot of uh... quirks, that my wife probably finds in credibly annoying like talking to the dog, losing my keys, waking up in the middle of the night and playing video and computer games.

The only thing she does that irks me is the whole back seat driving thing... but I figured out that all I have to is offer to let her drive and we both get a good laugh out of it. :)
