• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I went ahead and commented on that for ya.

Keep in mind that I'm personally a big fan of empirical physics and science. I don't however put "science" on a pedestal like atheists tend to do. Science tends to be their surrogate source of 'truthiness", but like all human endeavors, it's prone to human failures.

My partner and I were looking at the different facts about galaxy types, the sun, saturn, jupiter and earth. Was pretty interesting!

I enjoy living here in Mt. Shasta where can actually see the haze of the Milky Way on a cloudless night, and I can actually see an amazing number of stars in the sky. The universe is, humbling, awe inspiring, and beautiful beyond belief.

Hubble actually "spoiled" me on telescopes. :) One thing I give astronomers a lot of credit for, they design, build and maintain very good equipment, both on the ground and in in space. SOHO (now SDO) and Hubble images have forever changed my views about the universe we live in.

New Earth-Based Telescope System Snaps Sharpest-Ever Pics of Deep Space | Popular Science

Adaptive optics is starting to allow earth telescopes to filter out that distortion. Ground based telescopes can be much physically larger, so I'm not sure it's fair (with adaptive options) to say they are necessarily inferior. Some higher energy wavelengths of light are absorbed by the atmosphere however and they never reach the surface Earth. That's very good news in terms of human health, but bad news if you're an astronomer trying to study the higher energy wavelengths of light from space. :)

I have been a scientist my whole life, and if there is one thing I have learned is to not accept anything as "truth" and not put anything on a pedestal. Every scientists I know (atheist or not) thinks the same way. Your sample size is way too small.
