  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Well since some of the threads get way too serious, this one is a bit different.

In Sunday School class last week somehow the topic came up of making the bed.

I am of the opinion society needs a change of heart on bed-making. So here are my top reasons why you should not make the bed. Feel free to share them with a teenager near you.

1. The first thing you are going to do at night is mess it up again anyway. It is a waste of good calories.
2. If you keep moving and straightening the sheets it wears them out faster, resulting in more expense.
3. If you don't make your bed people will think you are exciting and different, and march to your own drum!
4. Who is going to be going into my bedroom anyway? Who am I trying to impress?
5. Making the bed is focusing only on appearance. As Christians we should be more concerned about the heart!
6. there has to be someone in the house who cares more about bed making than you do. If they feel so strongly, let them make the bed!

For some reason my wife doesn't agree with my theory. All three kids are convinced!

I'm with the KIDS and you!

No bed making!

Glad to hear!

The only thing that gives me pause is that Jesus made His bed when he was resurrected:

Joh 20:7 and the face cloth, which had been on Jesus' head, not lying with the linen cloths but folded up in a place by itself.

In that case though, He knew He wouldn't be needing it again!

7 Making your bed is bad for your back; lifting that mattress and tucking in those sheets---VERY DANGEROUS!

I am of the opinion society needs a change of heart on washing dishes. Here are my top reasons why we should not wash them.
1. They are just going to get dirty again right away anyway - possibly up to three times a day! It's a waste of water and soap.
2. If you run your dishwasher every day, it wears it out and makes it expire sooner than if you don't.
3. If you don't wahs your dishes, people won't come over anymore and you don't have to cater to company.
4. If no one is coming over anyway, there's no one to impress with clean dishes.
5. Washing dishes is a farce. There's still bacteria on them after they've been washed and have been sitting in your cupboards. We should be more concerned about washing the food we eat.
6. There is always someone in the house who cares about eating off clean dishes, so pretend you don't, and let everyone else clean them for a change.

On the topic of sheets, does the top sheet (under the blanket) go right side up or upside down (so that when you fold it over, you see the pretty flowers)? I was trained that the top sheet is to be placed right-side-up and nevermind folding it over to see the pretty flowers. Who cares about the pretty flowers anyway, I'm a guy.....! ;)

Who uses a top sheet anymore anyway? Too much of a hassle to make the bed.

I would like to, because when the weather is very hot, I like to throw off the comforter and only sleep with the sheet. For some reason (security blanket?) I like to have something over me. But my husband hates a top sheet and as he makes the bed every day, I gave up the top sheet so that it wouldn't be quite so onerous for him to do that. Compromise is a beautiful thing!

OK, this thread is hilarious, lol.

I've never understood the point of making a bed, unless you've got kids and pets likely to jump and crawl all over it (and hey, some people do!). I've always argued using point #4 - who's gonna go in my bedroom except me anyway? That never worked with Mom, though lol.

My current sleeping arrangement is rather odd right now. Hubby is a blanket-stealer, and he also gets much warmer than I do, so not only would he be stealing the sheets, but then I'd be freezing and want a blanket and he'd complain about being too hot. So we have TWO sets of covers on the bed; one on his side, and one on mine. His is just a sheet (overheating beast that he is), and I use a sheet and light blanket.

I always pull my sheet up when I get out of bed, just because we have a cat and a kid who don't mind putting their cruddy dirt all over it. I don't "make" my side, though, it never really looks very neat lol.

And I always used paper products before I got married! My hubby likes to be "homey" though, with proper dishes and stuff. But I agree, running the dishwasher 1-2 times every day costs more than a pack of paper plates at the dollar store! I may need to revisit this argument :)

My mom was pro-bed making. It didn't make much sense to me. When I got old enough to do my own thing, I just threw the bedspread over the sheets to keep the dust off.

We don't make our bed half of the time. If we have company coming over, we do. Sometimes my wife will put the bedspread on. If you have lot of blankets, make the bed is a hassle. One of the good things about living in a near tropical environment is if you want to make the bed, it's easier.
