This theater thing gets on my nerves.

I don't mean to attack anyone, but here is my opinion on the movie theater issue. I think it is all right to go to the movie theater. I know Ellen White spoke against it, but back in her day the theater was a bad place. It was a place where prostitutes hung out. It is not so today, and there is no logical reason not to go the movie theater unless you just don't like some of the junk they show there. Not everything Ellen White said applies to today. She lived in the 19th century, things were different back then. This is just my thoughts. Please don't attack me.:thumbsup:

Lets look at why did she say christians shouldn't be found in theaters.

"The true Christian will not desire to enter any place of amusement or engage in any diversion upon which he cannot ask the blessing of God. He will not be found at the theater, the billiard hall, or the bowling saloon. He will not unite with the gay waltzers or indulge in any
other bewitching pleasure that will banish Christ from the mind. {Adventist Home 515.4}
To those who plead for these diversions we answer, We cannot indulge in them in the name of Jesus of Nazareth. The blessing of God would not be invoked upon the hour spent at the theater or in the dance. No Christian would wish to meet death in such a place. No one would wish to be found there when Christ shall come. {AH 516.1}

The Theater the Hotbed of Immorality.--Among the most dangerous resorts for pleasure is the theater. Instead of being a school for morality and virtue, as is so often claimed, it is the very hotbed of immorality. Vicious habits and sinful propensities are strengthened and confirmed by these entertainments. Low songs, lewd gestures, expressions, and attitudes deprave the imagination and debase the morals. Every youth who habitually attends such exhibitions will be corrupted in principle. There is no influence in our land more powerful to poison the imagination, to destroy religious impressions, and to blunt the relish for the tranquil pleasures and sober realities of life than theatrical amusements. The love for these scenes increases with every indulgence as the desire for intoxicating drink strengthens with its use. The only safe course is to shun thetheater, the circus, and every other questionable place of amusement. {AH 516.2}

What's in the theater today? Outright nudity, sexual acts, violence, death and spiritualism. Much worse than the theaters of her days.

Many movies and TV ads have been found using subliminal messages to bypass our frontlope which makes moral judgments. These messages are then imbeded in the subconscious mind. Do you trust anyone to program your mind???

We are what we behold. We are the product of our environment. Study shows violent video games lead to violent behavior at school. Sins are first abhorred, then tolerated, then accepted, then vicariously lived, then actively practiced.

If you don't want to catch a cold, stay away from people who are sick.

Not all movies are bad so you can't say that. As for the subliminal messages thing, you do have to be careful about what movies you see. It doen't matter where you see the movie, it matters what you see.

Notice the word I highlighted in EGW's quote: habitual.

It's true not all movies are bad. Then again even the harmless Disney movies have alot of spiritualism. The producer of Lion King admits there are subliminal messages in the movie.

One of the areas of the New Age spiritualism is hypnotism: hidden communications. I just don't feel comfortable letting the cinematic experience to run my emotions. Guard the avenues to the soul.

The bible tells us to run away from temptation, suspicious, unclean things.

Ellen White was not telling you what you ought to do, but more along the lines of be alert, be on guard, don't put yourself in the position to fail because the devil can get us in more ways than we will ever know.

Yes that is true but we should not be super obessive thinking that something will hypnotize us. There is nothing wrong about getting exited about a movie unless it gets you reiled up in a negative way.
