This Summer

There's a lot of cool movies set to come out this summer. Which one are you guys really looking forward to and why.

Grindhouse just gets points for looking utterly ridiculous. Ridiculousness should be rewarded.

Since I could only vote for one I voted for the Simpsons since it's so long in coming. I'm also looking forward to Shrek, Spidey 3, PotC 3, and Harry Potter. And perhaps Evan Almighty, though I hope it doesn't go the 'sequels = bad' route

My vote goes to transformers, since it's more and meets the eye.
But also want to see Spidey, Pirates, Fantastic 4, shrek 3

I just hope it is able to get away with an R rating instead of NC-17 because if not I'll have to wait until it hits DVD to see it.

Although, a naked woman jumping on a trampoline, doing a split and landing on a butcher knife doesn't sound like it'll be able to take an R without heavy cuts.

Again, it's a B-Film. It's supposed to be sorta over the top and ridiculous.

If they want to stay true to the whole b-film/grindhouse thing, they have to keep it as it is, NC-17.

I realize that, but if they care about making any money from the film, it'll have to be cut down considering most theaters apparently won't show NC-17 movies.

Hopefully the MPAA will stop being biased and rate sex/nudity equally with violence and gore, and the movie will get a hard R.

Running Scared managed an R, I haven't seen it but I heard it pushed the limit of the R rating.

It did. Wayne Kramer said he was expecting an NC-17, and was shocked he got the R! Oddly, the most disturbing and best scenes in the film have little cursing and the "typical" violence. Great film!

Read my above post, the official Grindhouse site says R. And I got this from ropesofsilicone:

Hopefully they didn't have to cut it at all and the MPAA let it slide, or if they did have to cut it, hopefully not much.

I think the MPAA is getting more liberal. Look at The Matrix Reloaded. Some sexuality/nudity. Not much worse than something you might see in a PG-13 film. Fast forward a few years. 300, some sexuality/nudity. Some actual nudity and more sexual activity.

Having seen the trailers for most of the movies listed in the poll, I'd have to say I want to see all of them... but at the moment, I'm most excited about Pirates. But I'll definitely be spending a lot of time at the theatre this summer...

"Sexual content" is when it involves the act of sex and it's more graphic. "Some sexuality" means stuff like stripping, T&A type of stuff, with no sex act involved, or it's not really seen...but the MPAA is not constant with this stuff. The weirdest thing is, a hand job, OFF-SCREEN, with only the actors' faces within the frame, get you a "Strong sexual content" in the ratings, even though you see nothing.

But it looks like it's going to be kinda mild in this film.

True. There are PG-13 films that could've easily been a mild R years ago.
