Alright, this is for "old" Christian praise songs right? I was just wondering, how long has this song been around? It goes something like:

Here am I, Lord
Is it I, Lord?
I have heard you calling in the night
I will go Lord
Where you lead me
I will hold oyur people in my heart

So.... Yeah, would this count as one of those "Old" songs?

I can't believe you posted about this song. It is my favorite Christian song, and I was just about to start a thread about it. This is really unbelievable!! Anyway, it is as old as I am. It was written by Dan schutte in 1981. If you're interested in the chords or tab let me know.

Hey everyone,

I used to have the chords for this but I lost them. However, I tabbed out the melody the other day. There are a bunch of ways to play the melody, I played it high, on the high E and the B. I've not heard the Micah Tawlks cover of it, I do not know if it is the same speed or tempo or whatever. This melody is the one I hear at church a lot, my favorite church song:

Here I am Lord
Dan Schutte, 1981

I the Lord of sea and sky

e--3--2---3----------------
B-------------3---1---3--3-
G--------------------------
D--------------------------
A--------------------------
E--------------------------

I have heard my people cry

e--3--2---3---0------3---5
B-----------------3-------
G-------------------------
D-------------------------
A-------------------------
E-------------------------

Who will bring my light to them?

e--7---5-----3---2---3----2---0--
B--------------------------------
G--------------------------------
D--------------------------------
A--------------------------------
E--------------------------------

Whom shall I send?

e---0----2----3----5--------
B---------------------------
G---------------------------
D---------------------------
A---------------------------
E---------------------------

Here I am, Lord
e-------5--3--------------
B---3-----------3--------
G-----------------------
D-----------------------
A-----------------------
E-----------------------

Is it I Lord?
e---3---5---7---3-----------
B-----------------------
G-----------------------
D-----------------------
A-----------------------
E-----------------------

I have heard you calling in the night
e--3---5----7----7---8--7---5--3-----5
B------------------------------------
G------------------------------------
D------------------------------------
A------------------------------------
E------------------------------------

I will go Lord
e-------5--3--------------
B---3-----------3--------
G-----------------------
D-----------------------
A-----------------------
E-----------------------

If you lead me
e---3---5---7---3-----------
B-----------------------
G-----------------------
D-----------------------
A-----------------------
E-----------------------

I will hold your people in my heart

e--3--5----7------3---7--5---3---5---3--------
B---------------------------------------------
G---------------------------------------------
D---------------------------------------------
A---------------------------------------------
E---------------------------------------------

A lot of people have been asking for chords for the Micah Tawlks band. I have the chords to "I love to know You".

I Love To Know You

V.1
Em9 Cmaj7
I want to know You, more than anything
Em9 Cmaj7
A world that surrounds me, I live in everyday
G D Cadd9
Doesn’t compare to knowing You

V.2
Em9 Cmaj7
You take me places I’ve never been before
Em9 Cmaj7
You show me visions only You can give
G D Cadd9
And I love it when You speak to me

Chorus
G G/F#
I want to know You, I love to know You
Em7 Cadd9
Everything else I count as loss
G G/F#
I want to know You, I love to know You
D Cadd9
No matter what the cost

Bridge
D Em7 Cadd9
...Is nothing compared to knowing You, the cost...
(repeat)

This is such a wonderful and powerful song. I hope that these chords help some of you use it for worship. The trumpets went first in battle... we as worshippers are called to do the same!
Take care and God bless.

In the chart below, the | symbols are bar lines. I had to use ... to space the chords over the words.

Slash chords, like G/C, indicate a G chord with a C in the bass/

|G ................|G/C......G |
I the Lord of sea and sky

|G......G/C.........|G..........D..|
I have heard my people cry

|G.........Em......|Am7..G/B...C ...|
All who dwell in dark ...and sin

|Am..Am7/G ....|D/F# ..... D7/C.. | G/B....D/A..|
My .. hand will save.

|G ......................|G/C.......G |
I who made the stars of night

|G......G/C............|G..........D..|
I will make their darkness bright

|G.........Em......|Am7..G/B...C ...|
Who will bear my light to them?

|Am ...G/B....|C .......|D......|
Whom shall I send?

|D/F#..|G ... Gsus4 |
..Here I ...am, Lord

|G.........Gsus4 |Gmaj7/F# ...C/E ...D/D|
........ Is it ..........I .............Lord?

|G.........Gsus4 |G............|
...........I have ...heard you

|Am ..G/B....|C .......|
..calling in the night

|D....D/F#.|G..Gsus4|
........I will go Lord

|G...Gsus4|G/F#...C/E..C/D|
.......if you lead ....me

|G....Gsus4|G..........|Am7....D.....|G... Gsus4|
........I will ..hold your people in my heart

|G...Gsus4|G/F#...C/E | Dsus2...D/F#|

And it ends with ... |Gsus4... G|

If you're interested in talking about old songs ... the oldest song I know is Conditur alme siderum ... Creator of the Stars of Night. The text dates to the 6th or 7th century. The text and the tune appear together in a 9th century English breviary in which the song was used at Vespers during Advent. The English and Latin text is at : http://home.earthlink.net/~thesaurus/thesaurus/Hymni/Conditor.html

You can tell it's old chant because there is only one note per syllable throughout the song. Later, in the 11th and 12th centuries, the style became much more florid, e.g. with 47 notes on an "Alleluia".

I recording is at : http://members.aol.com/customapl/cond1.rm

It is in unison, except for 2 verses which are harmonized in parallel fifths. The practice of voices harmonizing in parallel fifths predates the 9th century.

The words, tune, and style are all over 1,200 years old ... talk about old time music.

I LOVE that song, too. Just recently we had a father sing a duet with his 8 year old daughter during the special music part of the service. Such a beautiful song, and combined with such a pure, angelic voice as that little girl...it makes me tear up remembering it.

Thanks so much for that Larry! I used to have the sheet music but lost it.
How do you play some of those chords? Like, a G with a C bass....on a normal G chord your root note is the lowest/bass note...I do not know how to play that chord, or any of those with a different bass note. Can you do a little diagram or something?
Thanks!
