This is in complete opposition to James 2:1-12!! Truly, truly sad...

Amen brother. It truly is a tragedy...what grievous woes are coming into our church these days!:(

This is so upsidedown that it astonishes me. Competing with sporting events? Is this a church or an entertainment venue???

You hit the nail on the head there! How many of our churches are evolving into entertainment venues?! Are we not in love with entertainmnent? While that church is more overt, I think many of our churches are moving rapidly in that direction.

The reason: Its all about me and my pleasure when it should be all about God and His pleasure.

I felt much better when I found out the article was an April Fools joke...whew! (larknews.com)

I'm glad that so many others were also outraged by such news.

However, I checked it out and found that it was not true. It was only meant as a joke. But I think that there are some churches that are not far off from being like that.

Oh, man, I am glad I read all of this thread before I posted. You definitely got me though, RP. :p

But I have to wonder, do I do anything akin to this myself? It was a good joke, and hopefully it will lead folks to examine themselves and their churches.

Matthew 25:45

Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.

~ Actually, it was a very common practice in calvinist churches to sell seats in churches until the mid 1800's. Many so called churches in the deep south had segregated seating until the 1900's.
~ Not that it is right, but it is an historical fact.
~ Continue to discuss amongst yourselves...

that is just so wrong ... it goes against everything the church is based on

why not provide "inservice" refreshments because this one revered event has been degraded to nothing more than a form of popular entertainment. There are very few things that are "sacred" and this church has ruined the act of going to church

It is disgusting , people volunteer their time / money because they feel a need to from God not from the church bribing people and thats all it is and to do it under the false pretense of religion just goes against everything they say to believe in

If they are so tight for $ - haven't they heard of fundraising as well as tithes but to segregate ppl who tithe and those who don't its just so immorally wrong !!! and to seat the new people in the plush seats - isn't it segregating people even further ? The only person to segregate people in regards to the church is God on Judgement Day.

I am not saying that their beliefs are innapropriate but that what they did is. But i guess that is where the world is heading

its just wrong !!!
