This is one of my all-time favorite songs.
It is so simple. It is so profound.

Meant to start a thread with these lyrics in mind and have some posts that reflect this thought about letting our own little lights shine in the world.

Wanted a very nice clip from youtube of children singing this song.

Instead, I found something more, much more. I offer to you both the song lyrics and the joy of seeing the real "Little Lights" of our world:

This little light of mine,
I'm gonna let it shine
This little light of mine,
I'm gonna let it shine
This little light of mine,
I'm gonna let it shine
Let it shine,
Let it shine,
Let it shine.

Shine all over the world
I'm gonna let it shine
Shine all over this world,
I'm gonna let it shine
Shine all over my world,,
I'm gonna let it shine
Let it shine,
Let it shine,
Let it shine.

Sanctuary

Somewhere must be some bright and shining place,
Some sanctuary for all the love we waste,

For every broken child and stolen future reaped,
For wondrous creatures slaughtered,
For noble forests, burnt to ashes heaped.

For the aged and infirm,
Abandoned in our arrogance and haste;
For sacred prayers forgotten by souls bereft of truth and grace.

Somewhere must be some bright and shining place,
Where God redeems this precious love we waste.

We used to sing This Little Light of Mine all the time in parochial school. :) I completely agree -- so simple, yet so profound -- you described it perfectly.

PS -- Isn't there a verse about hiding it under a bushel basket? My computer isn't being nice, so I'm not going to try watching the videos right now. :pink:

Did you mean this portion of scripture?:

Luke 8:16-18
16"No one lights a lamp and hides it in a jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, he puts it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light. 17For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open. 18Therefore consider carefully how you listen. Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what he thinks he has will be taken from him."

BTW - I like the OP Latreia.
I agree - simple and yet profound.

Well, I was referring to the verse in the song, but thank you for reminding me of that passage in Luke! :) It's a good thing to remind ourselves why songs like this are popular and the teaching they are based upon as well.

They teach us a lesson in
What we need to learn from it.
