Jim, he is wanted by a grand jury...

I don't believe this has any truth to it at all. Cardinal Law has been back to the US several times for conferences.
They would've arrested him if it were true.

But you're saying it, so please provide the proof that Cardinal Law is wanted by a grand jury.

Jim, he is wanted by a grand jury...

Law already testified before a grand jury- when was that in 2002 ?

Anyway, he testified his policy on sexual abuse was one of delegation and he was not personally involved.

No he is not a fugitive even figuritively and is probably at best no more accountable then the law enforcement and legal system that referred the parents back to the diocese where they took 'shut up money' and made it possible for the few who abused children to abuse more...

Get over it.

Both of y'all are not being honest with what went on... he testified and was incriminated beyond any words on what he allowed to go on.

but it was only becuase of loopholes with Mass. laws back then, why he wasn't indited.
It is not because he did nothing wrong...

He was highly responsible for the molestation of hundreds but there was nothing that could be done to him not becuase he was a innocent man but beacuse of gaps in the law.

I refuse to defend this man's actions in any kind of way and it boggles my mind how anyone can...

He wasn't found innocent, he was just outside of any legal action taken against him. The Church should not give him a safe haven, IMO.

Jim, you are kidding, right?

It was a different preist who did that... and this preist had admitted already to raping a 29 year old man!

Cardinal Law shuffled him around and did not bother to let anyone know he was a rapist and that is when he touch the buttocks of a girl and lifted her up her skirt wen she was on a ladder... let me find the facts because you are way off base. and this wasn't no 40 years ago, it was in 94 or something.

The only priest convicted during Cardinal Laws term, was Fr Gaigan.

Fr Shanley was also convicted, but for crimes in San Bernadino.

Other priests who were convicted had already left the priesthood.

Others were accused and the dioceses settled the lawsuits, but they never went to criminal trials. Most of them, the statute of limitations had run out. This is a federal law, not Massachusetts.

I am not talking about Cardinal Law try looking outside of the USA, he is just one man that illistrates the lack of action by the church against pedophile Priests. He is a tiny, unimportant part of this in the grand scale of abuse. He is accused of covering up sex abuse, which the Pope himself has condemned today. Cardinal Brady in Ireland is under pressure to resign due to because he protected a priest who carried out 90 sexual assaults. He had two teenager boys sign confidentiality clauses, while the priest was free to continue abusing.
The Pope himself failed to act adequately when he was Arch-Bishop in Munich, look up the news in Germany and Switzerland where hundreds are coming forward with claims of sexual abuse and rape by priests, today the Pope has had to apologise to the entire church in Ireland for the sexual abuse.

Some of the settlements were because the accusations could not be defended against because the accused priest were dead.

All being said, Cardinal Law, although he mismanaged it, did not commit a crime, and he in fact is being punnished by his demotion.

the familys took the money- so stop trying to say there was coercian involved- victims refused to testify or prosecute- the bishop has no legal authority, anything he repeat he heard is called hearsay

place the blame where it belongs- with the criminal/legal system and the victims who opted for money in the bank instead of criminal in the slammer

Again, go back to how sex abuse cases were handled by the law 20-40 years ago. Don't try and judge how the Church handled these cases then, by today's standards.

In those days, rape and sexual abuse cases were kept silent, but recommendation of psychiatrist and especially the lawyers protecting the victims.

It wasn't just the Church that kept sex abuse quiet, secular institutions such as schools and boys and girls clubs did the same.

Was it wrong? Not necessarily. What was wrong was how society treated victims of rape and sex abuse.

Now seriouly... this is just one preist and there were tons, not just two... please... and you tell me, I'm making up stuff??

You are so incredibly wrong. The facts speak for themselves. Laws own words speak for itself.

Law knew he had rapist and child molesters on his hands and he DID NOTHING but tell lies and keep the truth from ever seeing day light...

Sorry Jim but you post makes me sick to the stomach.
BARFRIEND is blaming the parents for receiving payouts, do you know that most women don't even bother to report rape because they conviction rate is so incredibily low and conviction of child sex abuse is extremely difficult to convict and extremely traumatic. If any parent can get justice without putting their child on the stand, where they will be accused of lying and blamed, would be tempted.
If a mother allowed her child to be continually raped by their father and did nothing, said don't talk about it because nobody would believe them, they would be guilty of abuse, neglect and utter failure to protect. She would go to prison too.
I suspect many of the priests that abused children were themselves abused, it doesn't come from nowhere that sickness.
Am I supposed to say it's okay they were just supremely stupid and ignorant and it is okay that Cardinal Brady's blind eye to the now infamous Fr Brendan Smyth allowed him to abuse children with impunity. The Cardinal witnessed teenage boys signing the confidentiality clauses. Boys who had been abused. It is one thing to to justify keeping quiet but to allow the abuse to continue and say he just needs prayer, is utterly irresponsible. 40 children were abused because of the failure to act. 40 lives ruined. And he denies a cover up. The church in Ireland is in total crisis, confidence and trust is utterly broken. It isn't just the sexual abuse, it is the institutions were children were taken too and were subjected to physical, mental and sexual abuse by nuns and priests. I know secular children's homes were magnets for pedophiles too how ever they don't claim to follow the teaching of Jesus.
How many of those victims are able to lead productive lives? How many have been driven to suicide, drink or drug abuse?
Though maybe some small justice was handed out when Cardinal Brady had to read out the letter from The Pope utterly condemning the failure to take action and protect.
The Pope hasn't even begun to address the wide spread abuse in Germany, his own
country yet, it is a powder keg.

I am not against the Church in anyway, I trust my Priests, I know these priests are as revolted as I am and want prosecutions. They have made sure that the phone number of the local authorities are accessable, should anyone have any complaint of sexual abuse. Parents are involved with all children's events, there is no event other than confession where a priest is alone with a child here. When they go to confession they are accompanied to the church by an parent. My church has a policy of accountability and is a place that children like to come too and has a big youth group.
