This is NOT a pro-lynching song

Sure....but it is very pro- violence and othering. It makes it clear that you should not go against the local order, though that is a key part of American history.

The song also summons up feelings of "walking when black", so I can understand why people are calling it a lynching song.

No, it is not a pro-lynching song if you read the lyrics. Using the Maury County Courthouse as a location, however, shows an incredible lack of awareness. He and his team should have known that would take the song and associate his tough guy lyrics with the history in Columbia. Culturally blind that he did not.

Aldean certainly alienated us casual country music fans with his unfettered tribalism. The Maury County Courthouse is well-known by southerners due to their famous lynching of an 18 year old black kid at the venue. If it's not advocating lynching, then the virtue signal is off the charts.

I change the station when Jason comes on a country music outlet now. It's a shame because he has talent.

Glad my country music playing days are mostly over.

If it isnt vigilante violence then its endless retread songs about how great it is to fly down dirt roads in your truck and drink on the tailgate with your gal by the bonfire. I mean, that does sounds pretty good. But enough is enough.

I listened to Candace Owens' podcast today. She has zero problems with the song or the video. Jason Aldean filmed in front of the courthouse because it is the closest one to his home, according to Candace Owens.

I agree with Governor Sanders and Jason Aldean concerning this song.
I tend to think they are being selective and political in their response. As I understand it, there wasn't complaining about the song until he released the video - which created the tie to lynching. As I said before, that was a pretty dumb move on his part.

That is a really poor reason to use a courthouse that has that history for that song. Go one county down the road. I literally don't buy that argument and don't think Candance is being honest.

Post 9/11 country music has gone downhill mainly because it’s much harder to sing well with a boot in your mouth.

Perhaps that is the reason why Aldean released the video. Nobody cared....until now. These people seem like attention addicts nowadays. "Look at me look at me! I need more likes on social media for self-esteem." This and the opportunists are all exploiting the culture wars for profit, oblivious to the damage it's done to our society.

Cynical. But you may not be wrong…

Isn't that history of the lynching at that courthouse about a 100 years old?
Who among us even knew about that horrific and heinous event before this video was made?

The fans’ ignorance of history makes it “okay”?
(I read the lyrics, it’s a “local-pride” tune, a very nice, community-oriented song to bring people together.)
Shame it’s being saddled with this, which is sorta controversial but I fail to see the “American Politics” angle.

If people have forgotten this history, then it's better we are reminded of it.

If people who live in that area, Jason among them, do not know the history of that lynching, that is a criticism of the history they have chosen to teach and the history they have chosen to hide.

Where was the concern when Disney used the courthouse in the Hannah Montana movie?

Did they couple it with a song about shooting/beating people up who do things you don't like, in a video also showing imagery from protests about violence against Black Americans? Context matters.

I don't know if I would necessarily classify it as "pro-lynching", but it's definitely in extremely poor taste.
