Oh so the protests were violent? I thought they were mostly peaceful.Did they couple it with a song about shooting/beating people up who do things you don't like, in a video also showing imagery from protests about violence against Black Americans? Context matters.
I don't know if I would necessarily classify it as "pro-lynching", but it's definitely in extremely poor taste.
What does that have to do with the topic of this thread?Oh so the protests were violent? I thought they were mostly peaceful.
@RocksInMyHead said “in a video also showing imagery from protests about violence against Black Americans? Context matters.”What does that have to do with the topic of this thread?
Yes, Aldean's music video used footage from BLM protests. I'm not sure what your point is though.@RocksInMyHead said “in a video also showing imagery from protests about violence against Black Americans? Context matters.”
Cynical. But you may not be wrong…
Most mainstream artists promote drugs, gangs, violence, and sleeping around Jason says ‘hey let’s not rob old ladies and burn down cities’ and CMT bans his videoYes, Aldean's music video used footage from BLM protests. I'm not sure what your point is though.
Are the black people coming to small towns and robbing old ladies? I didnt realize this was a typical thing. Most mainstream artists promote drugs, gangs, violence, and sleeping around Jason says ‘hey let’s not rob old ladies and burn down cities’ and CMT bans his video
Someone said the video imagery was "BLM riots". But I havent confirmed that. What does it have to do with black people?
Someone needs to provide Aldean a list of all the places where Democrats lynched black people so that he doesn’t make this mistake again. No, it is not a pro-lynching song if you read the lyrics. Using the Maury County Courthouse as a location, however, shows an incredible lack of awareness. He and his team should have known that would take the song and associate his tough guy lyrics with the history in Columbia. Culturally blind that he did not.
I suspect if you managed to raise the same level of public outcry about those songs, they might be pulled too. I don't think the drugs, gangs, and violence are typical CMT fare though. Sleeping around, maybe - I don't listen to a ton of country music. Most mainstream artists promote drugs, gangs, violence, and sleeping around Jason says ‘hey let’s not rob old ladies and burn down cities’ and CMT bans his video

That was me - I may have misunderstood something I read though. The music video includes footage of protesters clashing with police, which I assumed was from BLM protests, but I'm not positive of that.Someone said the video imagery was "BLM riots". But I havent confirmed that.
In the old South it was Democrats who fought against giving rights to black people and were responsible for a lot of the violence . You know, George Wallace, Jim Crow laws, etcI suspect if you managed to raise the same level of public outcry about those songs, they might be pulled too. What do Democrats have to do with this?
And what relevance does that have to the topic of this thread? In the old South it was Democrats who fought against giving rights to black people and were responsible for a lot of the violence .
The allegation is someone was lynched at the courthouse used in the video almost 100 years ago. It’s been used in other music videos and a Disney movie and it wasn’t an issueAnd what relevance does that have to the topic of this thread?
The issue is the juxtaposition of the imagery of the courthouse with imagery of protests and a song promoting violence against people who think differently than you. As I said, context matters. The allegation is someone was lynched at the courthouse used in the video almost 100 years ago. Seriously, you understand the difference.Where was the concern when Disney used the courthouse in the Hannah Montana movie?
I agree. Lost in the brouhaha is the awareness of Jason Aldean. The BLM protests are a community that is forced into taking care of themselves also, as his song supposedly represents. Police have long taken lives of their families and neighbors without consequences. If this was truly a song about unity Mr Aldean intentionally missed the chance to acknowledge how the black community is forced into taking care of their own. Yet he juxtaposed their "caretaking" into the violence in which he rails against. Which personally offends me as I enjoyed Aldeans music prior to him showing us his bigotry and tribalism recently. The issue is the juxtaposition of the imagery of the courthouse with imagery of protests and a song promoting violence against people who think differently than you. As I said, context matters.
The lyrics alone? Okay. The video alone? Also okay. The video and the lyrics together, though, sends a different message.
Doesn't explain why you brought political parties into it though.
