  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Do you believe it? Is what you receive at communion what Jesus said it is. Is it "my body" - specifically, is it Jesus' body? Or do you think it "means" something else?
Yes. Next question please? Jesus made himself abundantly clear that the Blessed Sacrament is his body.

Yes, though I don't believe in the sacrament we are chewing up bits and pieces of Christ's body. That isn't accepted by any Protestant, and I doubt that's what educated Catholics believe, either.
That reminds me when my college professor referred to it as "breaking bones" if it physically changed when I took a Sacrament course. And yes, we are Catholic

I believe that's the root of misunderstanding between magisterial Protestants and Catholics. When you are very attached to a church tradition, you can fall for polemics.

There's a Christian Reformed Church pastor, Paul Vanderklay, who is prominent on Youtube, that talks about how he has read both Aquinas and Calvin and he doesn't really see alot of difference between their perspectives, like splitting hairs.

Yes. He said it, I believe it. End of.

I believe Jesus is the gate, John 10:7 "Therefore Jesus said again, “Very truly I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep.", but do not believe Jesus is literal a gate.
I take that to mean "No".

The Lutheran confessions reject Caparnaitic feasting. We don't receive parts of Christ ,we receive the whole Christ.

Not to ramble on, but don't SOME Anglicans have wide views regarding the Eucharist? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Sure. There are some alleged Anglicans who don't believe in God at all. Why they persist in infesting the church is beyond me, but they're there. But Anglican doctrine is that the elements of the Euchariist are the Body and Blood of Christ.

Not a clue what that's supposed to mean.

Many people believe it is a symbol of Christ's body but I believe it IS literally his body. How is this possible? It is a mystery The Church says. I have to say that I feel a gush of energy, have an uplifted spirit, and jit feels like my vision is more clear after I am given this blessing. At least until I get back to the car. Then I just have a feeling of satisfaction like God is with me as I leave. By the time I get home, I just have a general feeling of being uplifted like I did the right thing or I have the Holy Spirit living in my heart and lungs.

I used to look forward to communion on the first Sunday of the month at the AME church where I was saved but now I can get that feeling every day if I choose to since I converted to The Holy Mother Church. If I go to St John's University/Abbey, I can get it up to 5 times a day and even more if I'm sick. I don't take advantage though. I just go to the local Basilica from time to time in my home town stmarys.org First Basilica in the United States. It's really awesome. It's built out of this special Italian marble that can only be found in one place on Earth. They have a noon Mass in downstairs that is very intimate. I love it, no need for microphones or speakers. The way the Mass is conducted really makes my/our Eucharist experience the best that I've had. They don't let us sip out of the chalice of wine since COVID but I have found that the Body of Christ still gives me the same emotions.

It's NOT cannibalism, it is a spiritual body and a mystery how it is transformed from blood to flesh.

That means we don't eat pieces of Christ's body in the Lord's Supper.
Maybe you don't but I do. It's a spiritual body and a mystery but it is the body of Christ. I guess I kind of feel sorry for you that you neither get the true body or blood of Christ from God but a "symbol."

Catholics don't believe that people eat pieces of Christ's body, either. Jesus isn't missing any fingers or toes as a result of the Eucharist. Capernaitic feasting is rejected by every Christian denomination.
Yes. 100%. Whole Person. Body and Blood means whole person. Not that we eat his actual face or toes or anything
