• CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

  • The rule regarding AI content has been updated. The rule now rules as follows:

Be sure to credit AI when copying and pasting AI sources. Link to the site of the AI search, just like linking to an article.

This is getting ridiculous...

... if I hear one more whinge about how this board is pro-Catholic I'm going to burst a blood vessel. Yah, yah, yah... I suppose this can be construed as a whinge as well, but to heck with it, I'm this close > < to walking away from this site altogether because the complaining has gotten out of hand. In the past 12 hours I've seen the subtle innuendo that Catholic's are cultists and I've seen non-Catholic posters jump on Catholic posters for asking an innocent question for the defining of what a Protestant is (need I say that I thought the question was asked in good faith). Everyday someone complains about Catholics who defend their faith in posts on several forums. Oh I'm sure this has absolutely nothing to do with our faith being mis-represented, ohh no, not at all.

I know full well that people who are not Catholic will not adhere to some Catholic teaching, but what I don't get is the insinuation that I'm an idiot because I adhere to it myself... if I hear one more comment along the lines of "... it's so obvious that (insert polemic stating the Catholic Churchs view is wrong)... " I'm going to pimp-slap someone!

Listen, I'm not going to force my beliefs down someone's throat. Matter of fact, I hardly ever start debates on the Interfaith forum and a majority of my posts revolve around either Scripture Study or correcting a blatantly obvious mis-representation of the Catholic position (in which I take great pains not to mis-represent the NCC position).

It just gets highly frustrating sometimes... the squeaky wheel definitely gets all the grease. Frankly, I'm sick of it and it's almost time to pack up and head off to a Catholic board.

NYJ, Peace be with you.

I, for one, enjoy your posts. Some of them cause me to look at some things from a slightly different angle. Some are written in a manner more clear than I had thought of.

Rejoice in the differences. Welcome the attacks. And remember to sometimes simply turn the cheek. You have planted seeds here. Give them time to mature. You can't grow a vine all at once.

God Bless and stay safe.

I'll be honest here... I don't know much about the Catholic faith. What I do know....I bet isn't true. So, I appologize for those who give the Catholics a hard time. "For they know not what they do", to quote a really cool guy!

God Bless,

I'll be in my corner. :D

We all love you! Don't go!

"Bias" normally means "something different from what I'm used to". I think a lot of people are used to hanging around only with people who don't really know exactly what the Catholics teach, and a few people who like to be all smug and superior about how their church is better than the Catholic one.

Needless to say, when they come here, and find out that people won't allow them to make disparaging remarks based on lies about what the Church teaches, they're a bit surprised by the "bias". Meanwhile, someone who hangs around with people who think that non-Catholics may
be in serious danger, because they're not members of the *true* Church, would be shocked at the anti-Catholic bias here.

It's all good. You're doing a good job, and I'm certainly glad you're here. If you want to relax a bit, just put a few people on Ignore for a week or so, and mostly hang out in OB,OB. Sometimes we need a bit of a break from the people who drive us nuts.

If I may, when I came to this board I thought that Catholics were statue worshipping, praying TO saints (as in worshipping them), doing whatever you want as long as you make it to confession, etc. etc. You, Wols, and the rest have set alot of my misconceptions straight. You need to stick around to set others straight as well.

Look at the big picture. it is a handful of people, not a majority. Ignore them if need be. Who cares what they think? As some of you know, I am in a denom that adheres to the reformed doctrine of predestination/election. I heard Jerry Falwell (I think) last night say that this doctrine is "baloney". I almost freaked out, then I thought, "Why bother."

Stick around, better yet, go have a pint on me and come back.

Thanks Gabriel, and you're right, it is but a handful of people.

I guess I should ask God that, if he's going to endow me with any saintly attributes, that He reserve St. Jerome's temper for someone else ;) .

My mom has a napkin holder with the saying Save your temper, you may need it later. :D

If I may ask, Gabriel, where did you hear these things? Have you sent corrections back to those sources?

These are things I assumed or heard. I don't have a source really. I never corrected them because at the time I didn't know any better. I would now, though.

NYJ....

If I am stuck here..so are you.

Use the handy "IGNORE" feature...it works for me.

You are a good guy and I have learned a lot from you. One thing we have to remember ~ it's not really the one's who post questions or comments that upset that our "audience".

Our "audience" are those people who lurk, but rarely or never post. They may be a "fallen away Catholic", potential convert or a current Catholic unsure of their beliefs. That is for whom we post the correct information for...not the trolls or those who come to rail against the church. Although..we may plant seeds with them as well.

Hang in there my brother, we all suffer together!

Peace.

nyj,

I am only assuming here, so if I'm wrong let me know...k.

Are you referring to Hector's thread asking What is a Protestant?

I thought I answered his questions w/o offending anyone except maybe the SDA's.

I only posted the cult checklist for her info....not to imply that Catholics are in a cult. Whatever my opinions are regarding the Catholic Church, I try my hardest to only post scripturally based responses and not go below the belt.

peace & love, bro

nyj,

I haven't been here long but do enjoy your posts. I don't think another board would solve your problems, even on most Catholic ran boards the attacks are often worse than what is seen here. Some might call it proCatholic but it simply seems to be one of the better balanced boards for what I have seen. I hope the attempt to appease some who feel it is too Catholic won't ruin that balance and temperment.

There may be some closed Catholic-only areas out there, but most have been a bit too "Traditionalist" for me. Otherwise open Catholic boards are often open season for the crowd that wants to attack and/or evangelize Catholics.

God bless,

Marcia

Hey, nyj. :) I very much enjoy your posts. You always make your points in a way that anybody can understand without watering the teaching down in the process. You do a great job. I understand your frustrations, I really do. It is very hard for me to respond with kindness sometimes. The Lord knows I have a filthy temper, since He gave it to me after all. :) I am, in unguarded moments, a sharp and sarcastic person with an appalling lack of patience. It pains me to know it, and I am slowly conquering it with God's help. I have come to regard the type of posts you speak of as tests of my resolve. Like God is saying, "Ok. Here's your chance. Show Me the Christ." :) I have been accused of 'kissing up' to the anti-Catholics, of surrendering my faith in the cause of "can't we all just get along', and of being a conniving schemer whose 'kindness' is just a mockery. *shrug* I've come to the conclusion that I can't please everyone no matter what I do, but I can still try to please God and His opinion is the one that matters. :)

Keep your hand on the plow, my friend, and may the Peace of Christ be with you.
