  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

  • The rule regarding AI content has been updated. The rule now rules as follows:

Be sure to credit AI when copying and pasting AI sources. Link to the site of the AI search, just like linking to an article.

This is all rather bewildering...

I don't understand, but I like to think it may have meant something.

There once lived a man who believed God told him to sacrifice his son, so one day he told him to carry some wood on his back, and up the mountain they went. His son, knowing the usual custom, asked where the sacrifice was, and his father told him to keep trekking, God would provide. Sure enough, after a fairly close call God did provide a sacrifice and the man didn't have to sacrifice his son.

A few thousand years later, another Father gave up His Son, who also carried the wood of sacrifice, only this time it was a cross. Again, the God provided the sacrifical lamb, only this time the Lamb and the Son were one and the same. Sometimes what something means has only to do with perspective.

Rest easy, Joe. You have a great many prayers circling around the throne of God tonight, and a multitude of Angels to keep you comfort by your bedside. You always have an open ear in us.

Peace be with you,

Neal

I think you're getting it, Joe. I really do. All these questions, all these seemingly random thoughts, even feeling like you're being inundated in a storm - it all seems like it is because you are "getting it."

BTW, many people spend their whole lives believing in the Christian faith without ever experiencing anything remotely personal. Both Protestant and Catholic (I should know - I am recovering one)... The key "is" your personal relationship with Christ. IMO, in the Catholic Church, the experience/relationship is much richer and deeper because you have the sacraments, the history, the unity, and (dare I say it? it's last in my listing, but far from the least) the Truth.

Still praying. Rest easy.

To Joe:

I wish you could meet my daughter. (oh, and not for a fix-up, LOL, she's engaged) She is such a FERVENT Catholic apologist! When she was in high school, she got into many debates with her teachers and her peers. They admired her tenacity, if anything!

Her biggest problem was the inevitable encounter with the evangelistic Protestant who wanted to "save" her. It got to be a big source of irritation when someone would make overtures to be friends, and then she'd get hit with the sales pitch. She came home one day almost screaming. She said, "If ONE MORE PERSON asks me 'Is Jesus Christ your personal-Lord-and-Savior' I'm going to SCREAM!" Just the way some people string the words together like that is irritating enough, but the idea that non-Catholic Christians are trying to "save" Catholics so they can have a personal relationship is really quite ludicrous.

Because when we receive the Eucharist, Joe, we TOUCH GOD.

That's pretty personal in my book.

Peace be with you,
~VOW

LOL. :D Vow, you could always tell her to do what I do: when an Evangelical asks me, "Have you accepted Jesus as your personal Savior?", I always answer, "Yes, I have. Have you accepted Mary as your personal Mother?"

LOL!!! :D

Actually, I live down here in the Bible belt, and I've NEVER had anyone ask me that... well, accept for the Pastor once, because people who had been praying for a long time that I would "get saved" told him to do it.

But believe me VOW... I know EXACTLY what you're daughter went through! lol! Did she get confronted so often because people knew she was a Catholic? I imagine that that would have "helped". Hahaha, and see, all you have to do is tune into your native Cali station, TBN... then you'd get all of it you could POSSIBLY EVER DESIRE!!! lol!

I know, I know, I know... oh boy... I'll tell you what. I believe the people that witness with that phrase are perfectly honestly concerned, but more than half the time, that's just not the way you go about telling people about God! That's like walking up to a nice Christian lady to court, and saying, "Hello ma'am, you don't know me, but I'd like to get married and have babies with you if you're interested." LOL!!! :D SLOW DOOOOWWWWWNNNNNN PAD-NA!!!!!!!
